9.46pm BRITISH Prime Minister David Cameron says a "fightback" is underway after four nights of rioting, adding that more robust policing had calmed the situation in London overnight.
Cameron said "nothing is off the table" in the new measures to take on the rioters, and he said security chiefs had decided to authorise the use of water cannon for the first time in mainland Britain, if they are required.
"We needed a fightback and a fightback is underway," Cameron told a news conference outside 10 Downing Street today after the second meeting of Britain's COBRA security committee in as many days.
"While they are not currently needed, we now have in place contingency plans for water cannon to be available at 24 hours' notice," Cameron said after the riots spread from London to several other northern and central English cities.

8.46pm Three men died after being hit by a car at riots in Birmingham, as police got powers to use water cannons after kids as young as nine looted stores.
The children wore tracksuits and innocently disregarded covering their faces as they ran through the shattered glass of supermarkets to fill their pockets with looted goods.
But today, the police were given the green light to use water cannons with 24 hours notice. Prime Minister David Cameron said that plans had been put in place to deal with the disorder.
The comments were seen as u-turn on what Home Secretary Theresa May said earlier this week when she ruled out the use of water cannons. The 'softly softly' approach has been shelved and police will finally be given the backing to come down hard on offenders.

7.48pm Three men have died after being hit by a car at riots in Birmingham, with reports claiming they were trying to protect their community from looters.
Police said they had arrested a man and launched a murder inquiry after the incident which happened about 1am on Wednesday (1000 AEST) as Britain's second biggest city suffered from another night of riots.
Paramedics said they found about 80 people at the scene after the men were hit by the car.
Two of the men were pronounced dead at the scene and the third died later in hospital.
The BBC reported that the men who died had just come out of a mosque and were protecting their neighbourhood during the riots.
About 200 people from Birmingham's Asian community gathered outside the hospital where the victims were taken, the BBC reported, adding that riot police were also stationed nearby.
There was no immediate confirmation of those details from police.

1.25pm London's riot-devastated communities have taken to social media to reclaim their streets back from violent looters.
Rioters used Blackberry Messenger, Twitter and Facebook to help orchestrate the four days of destruction across the country, but social media platforms were also adopted to mobilise citizens to clean up and protect their homes and businesses.
As fires raged across London on Monday night, the Twitter page and website @riotcleanup was set up to coordinate mass clean-ups.
Followers were advised to arm themselves with brooms, bin bags, gloves and dustpans to take on the burning debris, broken glass and litter spread across the streets of London.
Within 24 hours it had more than 86,000 followers.
Former England cricketer Adam Hollioake, who now lives on the Gold Coast, showed his support for the group’s cleaning fight back against the senseless attacks.
“If they do it again. We do this again tomorrow. Solidarity for our communities. Show them they cannot win,” he said on Twitter yesterday.
In the traditional British style of carrying on, hundreds of people joined the clean up campaign yesterday, particularly in Clapham, south London, where rioters had trashed the high street and looted stores.
Concerned Brits also used social media to identify thugs behind the violence and looting.
The Tumblr account Catch A Looter was set up but yesterday taken down due to the number of people naming and shaming individuals caught in riot photographs.
It highlighted the fears that vigilante mobs could take revenge on rioters and escalate racial violence in what police have called the worst days of disorder in British history.
Police yesterday ordered groups of concerned locals across south and east London to return home after they set up stockades outside their businesses.
East London’s Bengali community in Whitechapel and Turkish business owners in Dalston became heroes of Mondays riots for scaring off rioters with bats and wooden stakes when police could not control the crowds.
Hundreds of people outside a Sikh temple in Southall, south London, stood shoulder to shoulder yesterday to defend their place of worship from young rioters.
In Enfield, north London, people ran through the streets chanting “England” in an attempt to scare away the predominantly black rioters.
Leader of Britain’s extremist right-wing group, the English Defence League, said yesterday that up to 1,000 members would take to the streets in areas of unrest to stop the riots.
The group recently made headlines for inspiring Norway’s mass murderer Anders Behring Breivik
EDL leader Stephen Lennon said members were already patrolling streets to deter rioters.
“We’re going to stop the riots, police obviously can’t handle it,” Lennon said.

Jean Paul Isaac should grow up. A Seychellois in London posted the first message. SFP posted an article from a UK right wing press which appeared to praise the EDL. The British police spent hours last night battling EDL in Eltham, London. It was probably ignorance on the part of all of you at SFP. Be careful before you indulge in foreign politics and try to draw parallel with Seychelles politics. The English Defence League is not about defending England; it is a racist organisation that thinks England is for white people only.

ReplyDeleteMorgan said that he knows who the 25 Escobars are and he has information on them.
Hence, we in SFP simply ask that Morgan take concrete action to arrest detain, charge prosecute these 25 Escobars. 25 Escobars in one country is a huge amount. In Columbia, there was only One Escobar.
The comment by Isaac of citizens dealing with the issue is important, if Morgan does not.
There are many things that can be done: 1. photo and load their pictures, so Morgan can confirm or deny they are Escobars. 2. Bang pots at and around their residents until they promise to stop selling drugs. 3. Morgan as I said before, can simply go speak to them over and over again and again, until the give up the practice. 4. Each time he goes, he can bring another minister with him until all of State House attends the meetings.
We are a small micro state. There is no reason why we should not be able to stop the Escobars, unless of course, they are the same people tasked with stopping them.
That is the real problem.
Please, for the love of our country , try to comment in a responsible manner, to help the debate, instead of trying to kill it, which is what you appear to be trying to do.

Good for those people involved to show a positive light to what is a dark day in England history. Very nice of them to do it, and there doing it for there communities and for friends and strangers. I dont know if I would be venturing out into the suburbs with the troubles thats going on.

ReplyDeleteAnother Black man in London got shot down by Police. Investigation shows that he did not fire at the police like the met tried to say before. (He was apparently a well known drug dealer & they were following him on road) Police are suppose to shoot if their life is in imminent danger. There has been a few shootings of black men by police in London throughout the years i've been living here and the young black men (although the looting escalated to all types of races) are angry at the police because they feel brutalised by the met police 'stop & search' policy, because they stop & search the young black males only.

It is short-sighted of black UK businessmen to praise EDL for "taking back the community". A resurgent EDL will turn against all ethnic minorities, making no allowances for black capitalists. Chris’ Movement for Seychellois Rasin says it all and he makes no bones about it! The connotation in the name suggests racism. That is the same for every country in the world. Every nationalist movement or political party is founded on racism against their immigrants and minorities.
Unfortunately because the Seychellois people as a whole are too laid back about these thing therefore it is open for Christopher Gill to exploit it knowing that what is posted today will be overlooked and tomorrow forgotten by the majority and we’ll move on but at the same time the context will be lodged in our minds hence brainwashing and manipulation.
Christopher Gill has the power to delete these posts and not hide behind his free expression baloney but he chooses not to because he wants everyone to read them. I won’t be surprised if he wrote them himself. He has relatives in Australia and that is the general mentality of Australian Seychellois!
