SFP Press Release Our Stand On Alcohol Regulations.

Press Release
07.03.2013

The SFP declares its official position on the PL Government attempt to curtail the consumption of Alcohol in the country by Citizens.
The SFP encourages a Alcohol and Tobacco policy that reflects modern 21st century trends and is weary of policy that infringe overtly on the individual’s right to Freedom Of Choice while being mindful of the states interest in promoting peace progress and health welfare of the Nation.

1. The lawful production of non distilled brews such as Baka results in a severe health and welfare burden to society and endangered the health of consumers conclusively. The Government of Seychelles should take steps to end this practice of pedaling illicit brews made of questionable distillery practice and questionable locales at the soonest time possible;

2. Toddy production policy must be re-examined and a report by the Ministry of Health should be made official and public on the consumption nationally and the effects it has on the individual drinking toddy in large amounts daily; before toddy is banned in Seychelles.

3. The sale of Alcohol and Tobacco should not be restricted to hours of the day and discriminate against the Bona Fide Seychellois consumer. Consumption is an individual right to Freedom of Choice to choose first and foremost.

4. However, the SFP believes that the State has a Compelling Interest to insure the General Health Safety and of the Public and similarly, it has an interest in insuring the Excise Tax on Alcohol and Tobacco is effectively collected in the interest of the Public at large. With this in mind, the SFP urges that all Alcohol and Tobacco be sold in individual self contained outlets and the sale be subjected to restricted hours after 2.00pm until 8.00 pm. Alcohol and Tobacco today, should not be sold along with general merchandise that have no effect on the body and mind. Proper rules and regulations for the sale of alcohol must be discussed with the Public and a dialogue ensued, to consider any other valid points that may arise on the matter. Operation of the separate Alcohol and Tobacco outlets should be made available to Bona Fide Seychellois as business opportunities first and foremost.

5. Under no circumstances should the Government create another discriminatory class structure wherein it chooses to sell alcohol to some people at some hours, and to not sell alcohol to other people.  This violates Article 27 the Right to Equal Protection under the Seychelles Charter.

End.

They should bad tourists from bringing duty free alcohol like they do in Maldives so we hoteliers and local business like Takamaka Rhum can sell the alcohol and make money. Sesel pou seselwa

So what do you expect, duty free to close their doors.

Alcohol and Tobacco are item of consumption that has been entrenched in the consumerism system and one must be a fool to think that isolating the two elements and creating a 'Castro state' of affairs will help the situation on our shores.
The problem must be looked at in a global perspective and careful assessments must be performed to ascertain the level of its effect on the population's health, and not jump to conclusions. Although assessments have been done internationally, our problems may have a very different dimensions. Draconian rules and archaic actions will not relieve our nation from the crisis but may very well have an adverse effect similar to that of the illegal drugs trade.
Are we suggesting that we may soon need to have a "NAATEA" something like NDEA (National Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement Agency) to patrol our surrounding, check our bags at the airport, have sniffer dogs behind us in the streets to see if we are not consuming alcohol and tobacco. If my deductions from all this very loud noise is right, there must be something behind all of this sudden movement.
This is the beginning of the Islamisation of the Seychellois people. They have to hide behind something dramatic to conceal the true nature of the whole affair.
A much better way to deal with this whole saga is to increase the tax on both items to something like 500% remembering that many people will lose their jobs in the process. Then, this Tax can help pay for the unemployment benefits for the people laid off. However, Remember well that the biggest losers in all of this are the politicians themselves who have large amounts invested in the importation of the alcohol and tobacco and also have shares in the breweries and the tobacco factories.
Does the small people on the streets win in all of this hypocrisy? Food for thought...

Is Seychelles becoming a muslim country?

Duty Free should be able to sell alcohol but it should not be owned by Mukesh and the Savy's.

Seychelles should be turned into a duty free zone and all Seychellois should be able to enter the duty free business who want to.

Time constraints for sale should not apply to duty free facilities.

Each district should have one.

PP must stop dictation. In modern society, one debate, work together to find solution to probelems,etc...Moreover,why put the blame on Duty free as if duty free is a product of alkohol.

Why there are many reasons for the consumption of Alkohol, one reason is clear when it comes to Seychelles, namely many Seychellois unable to deal with the economic hardship Pp endures on them, social problem etc have increase the amount of alkoholics in Seychelles.

_Tax increase on alkohol-is important when targeting young people.
-Restricting the volume
_drink-driving policies and coutermeasures
-Regualating thr number of on-permise and of-permisealcohol outlets
-Rergulating hours of retail sale
-Establishing a minimum age for purchase or consumption of alcoholic beverages and other policies to rasie barrier against sale of alcoholic beverages to adolecents
-Adopting polices to prevent sales to intoxicated persons and those below the legal age and considering the introduction of mechanism for placing liability on sellers and servers in accordance with national legislations
-Adopting policies to reduce and elimate availability of illict porducts
-Reducing the impact of marketing particularly odolecents
_banning and restricting the use of direct and inderect price promotion ,discount sales
_establishing price where possible
-Provding price incentive ofr non-alcoholic beverages
-Provding consumer inforamtion about, and labelling alcoholic beverages to indicate, the hram related to alcohol.

CIGARRETTE
For big somkers--(cigaerrette substitute)Electronic cigaerrette can help reduce use and its uses completely.

HERBALS CIGARRETTEs:Arkopharma,Honeyrose menthol,The help to deal with tobbaco cessation.
-NOCOTINE GUM:which is atype of nicotine replacement therapy.
-NICORETTE INHALATOR
_NICOTINE PATCHES
CRAFE AWAY CIGARRETTE:which is a tobaco-flavour safe cigarette

Both Cigarette and alcohol is a cultural and society problem, there is no easy solutions and often any efford can take years to bear fruits.

Some causes of Abuse are due to:-Lost of cultural identity
-povertty and unemployment
-lack of socail opportunities
-availability of the intoxicant

I also think though it a problem that needs to be de4al with, the main concern of PP should be to deal with HArd drug abuse for its consequences on health can be worse than smoking or drinking aND MOREVOER IT CREATE CRIMINALS.

Mr Gill you must be going crazy to think that Jeanne D'arc will make a good health minister. Perhaps he might be better than Mitcy Larue just as bad as the same time hahahahahahahahahaha. Wa dir moi son ser, may be, just may be.
However Jeanne D'arc ek son dominer will perhaps be good as minister of youth. Only if he does not share his drinking habbit with them. Sa wa dir moi, ya drez laguel sa bann zen kinn fini gate dan drog. I vote Mr Jean- paul Isaac as minister of transport. Mr Allen Gervais Comettant is an ideal minister of education. Sa wi wa dire moi.

Who else do you have in SFP? I am not familiar with Seychelles opposition parties. Is Marc Hoareau a member of SFP? He is an awesome guy, great personality and will make a great prime minister. and of course Mr gill as Presidente.

Anonymous said...

Latin for president.

Anonymous said...

Now,now, be sincere with all you compliments. Most people can tell the difference between sugar and saccharine.
I myself would vote for Isaac over Gill for SFP president.

Anonymous said...

Indeed SFP hits the nail on the head and they are offended instead of addressing the issue at hand.

Islam is the only way forward for all. Islam in its original true sense is the real religion and has answers for all our modern problems. Do not follow the teachings of ordinary men. Follow the Quran and the teachings of the last Prophet Muhammed (PBUH). The terrorists that roam the globe should not be associated with Islam. Islam is a peaceful religion which has respect for each and everyone of us. I am glad I reverted to Islam some 10 years ago, I have learnt so much and would ask anyone with doubt to study the Quran. Peace and Blessings to All. Bilal

"Whilst a man walked on a pathway he noticed a branch of thorns on it and removed it, so in appreciation the Almighty forgave him." (Agreed Upon)

What an amazing reward for removing harm from the pathways and roads used by people. The Almighty has laid so much emphasis on assisting fellow human beings, being considerate towards them and ensuring that they are as safe as can be.

If the reward of removing harm is so great imagine the sin of placing harm on a pathway! Then imagine the sin of causing harm to an individual whether physically or verbally!

Many have forgotten that we are required by our faith to be of greatest benefit to those around us and to protect them from any harm let alone harm them ourselves. Be conscious of this and earn forgiveness. This is the real iIslam. Bilal

Creole proverbs make sense in the life of the Seychelles people. "Sa qu'ine chose-son-chose y a chose-son-chose li-men" The hullabaloos on Alcohol and Tax in the Seychelles are indeed clear examples. Who abolished the licensing and regulations controlling toddy and bacca? Who abolished income-tax system? Albert Rene and his henchmen for political expediency!
The old regulations were useful and proven, whilst the new alcohol regulations, if you ask me, they are too little too late!
The country is unsure of future tax system -GST was a failure, now we are experimenting with VAT.

8.02 Pm
Pp claims that it surpassed Muaritius is absurdity at its best.PP told us in the same article in Nation that "Mauritius total arrival for 2012 was 960,ooo and Seychelles in the same year 205,ooo ,for Pp 960 ,oo and LESS than 205,ooo thus expalining why Pp think it has beaten Mauritius and even procliamed itself winner. How can a country move forward and revive its broken economy ehen its governemnt can not count?
And you also noted that IMF as each year for the alst four year is telling us we on the right track, which means we will keep begging and live on IMF infusion for an indefinite time.

C'est la raison pour laquelle le dicton : "Aimez - vous les uns les autres" est intraduisible en arabe .
Objet : Devinette
