As our athletes were making
and her people proud, as they won one gold medal after another in the Indian Ocean Games without cheating, without being slick or tricky and without buying the accolades the Commonwealth Expert Team produced the Observers report for the Presidential Elections. Seychelles
Silence on “Free and Fair Elections”
While the Observers rated the elections “credible”, they did not say it was “Free or Fair” , nor did they say there are no problems in paradise when it comes to elections. A careful read of the report exposes a damning Tin Medal to the SPPF PL Communists for not implementing electoral reforms since 1993, 1998 elections and most recently the 2006 elections reforms recommended were ignored for years and years on.
For this SPPF PL Communists get the Tin Medal. You can use the tin from the Sr. 17.00 tuna dust from IOT, cut it out, into a star if possible, and pin it to an SPPF Communist you know. Ask them to wear it proudly in town, for they deserve the Tin Medal for letting our democracy fall apart and remain a
with just window dressing to make it look like we are a Democracy. One Party State
We will be fooled no longer neither will the Commonwealth or anyone else.
The Game Is Over
The Commonwealth in an internal memorandum between Dr. the Hon. Julian Hunt SLA OBE, Chairperson of the Seychelles team, to Secretary General Sharma, dated 26th, May 2011, refers to the presidential election as another step in Seychelles ‘”continued transition” into a progressive multiparty democracy. This revealing statement means, we are not a progressive democracy we are still working on it. If anything, we are a repressive democracy. Example, the failing of the Communist government to implement any serious electoral reforms since 1993, that would be generally acceptable by the Seychelles population.
No Independent Electoral Commission in Place
A main ongoing restatement or gripe of the Commonwealth is the failure of the Communists in
to create a “full-fledged independent Electoral Commission”. They have said that the creation of the independent commission must be accepted by the general population and all parties, to give credibility to their work. This clearly has not taken place in our recent context, wherein the Communists hacked the powers of the CAA and forced the CAA to name Seven (7) persons who can serve on the Commission, and the President then picks his Five(5) favorite to actually serve. This patently flawed process of selection overrides the intent of an independent selection body the CAA was meant to be under the Constitution. Hence, this new step towards reform, by the Seychelles Communist PL, is NOT ACCEPTABLE. For that the PL Communist get a second Tin Medal out of a can of tuna. Bravo Communists, keep up the good work. Stalin would be proud of you, being so slick.
Demands All The way Back Five Years Ago
The demand for a truly independent election commission has been made in 2006 by the Commonwealth Observers, and all parties in the opposition and myself as a political columnist. The Communist ignored this demand for the entire past Five (5) years. How many times did they terminate the National Assembly early because they did not have enough work in that period? For this fantastic delay tactic, the PL Communists get another Tin Medal. Open another can of tuna to smell the stink.
In 2006, the Commonwealth recommendation called for:” the establishment of a permanent, independent and adequately resources, Electoral Commission” following the practice found in many other democratic countries.” Until an independent electoral commission is formed, democracy in Seychelles will not be credible to us Seychellois, because we know how the Freedom is cut, sniped, and compromised every step of the way. The Commonwealth, are here for Two (2) weeks out of Five (5) years, yet they too smell the stink rotting underneath the Communist politeness.
Commonwealth Does Not Trust Tin Medalist
As if to take the words out of my mouth, the Observers reported, page Seven (7) :
Through the course of our discussions with Government officials,
we have gained the impression that they are now receptive to the
establishment of an independent Election Commission. However,
our concern is that while they may very well go through the
exercise of establishing such a Commission in fulfillment of our
recommendation, the appointees to the Commission must be from
a broad cross –section of stakeholders and the appointment process
must also be, and seen to be, a truly independent process.
A Fourth Tin Medal to the Communists for failing our Democracy and not respecting Freedom. Our IOG players should be ashamed of you, as they work hard for their medals, you play trickery typical of communists for your Tin Medal.
What Does The Commonwealth Mean?
This means, that even the Commonwealth is suspicious of the Communists and greatly suspect of their words. When the National Assembly passed a new constitutional amendment to replace and curtail the powers of the CAA to create an Election Commission, the communists, were doing exactly what the Commonwealth Observers feared, they would do: create a Commission that is not truly independent. This with the vote of Jane Carpin, SNP, they have done just that.
Along these lines, the Commonwealth Observers said: “It is therefore recommended again, that the National Assembly establish a permanent, independent and adequately resourced Electoral Commission. This Commission should not supplant the Elections Advisory Board.
For circumventing the work of the National Assembly, a Fifth Tin Medal to the Communists. Pol Pot would have loved to have you for dinner to exchange stories of brutality that you hide so well because some in the opposition sleep.
For entering into a cajoling exercise with SNP MNA Jane Carpin, which has undermined our democracy, a Sixth Tin Medal to the Communist Party of Seychelles (CPS). You now have a new name as a consolation prize.
For taking the tool of constitutional amendments to circumvent the will of the people, a Seventh Tin Medal to the Communist Party of Seychelles.
For sending the Judges on holiday and for going on holiday themselves, Tin Medal number Eight (8).
A total of Eight (8) Tin Medals to the Communists!
