Republic of Seychelles National Assembly held its swearing in ceremony this week. The Assembly is occupied by one single party, the PL s the communist party of . No other party sits in the National Assembly. They are the primary benefactors of the dictatorial one party state era. Seychelles
The PDM observed in wait, to be granted a single seat on proportional basis through the back doors of the
Constitutional Court, which will soon deliver a decision on the definition of “vote cast”. No judge on the panel is a Seychellois, all are foreign judges under contract, subject to renewal, and some are applying for citizenship. The farce of a one party state has begun officially all over again. Already people are putting homes up for sale, packing it in and applying for Visas to Canada, Australia, Madagascar, Zimbabwe, and others. Sierra Leone
No Majority Support
The biggest alarming farce is not the giggling ongoing by PL MNA’s as they swore themselves in, without an opponent or opposition, but the fact that they hold seats without an out right majority of the registered voters support.
They occupy the National Assembly with 44% of the vote. The rest of the voters stayed home did not vote, or voted by spoilt vote in PROTEST of the ongoing farce that the country has not put democratic practice in place and freedom is lacking in
as is respect of fundamental human rights guaranteed under the Constitution and the UN Charter of Human Rights. Seychelles was recently sanctioned by UN Committee of Human Rights for not filing annual country report on Human Rights for Seventeen (17) years. Seychelles
The 3rd Republic is in Limbo Non Functional
The communist party has a closely held secret that Mr. Gappy failed to point out and our friends in SNP leadership have not figured out, since they are busy worrying about the seat of Leader of Opposition going to David Pierre of PDM and covering their tracks of conspiracy for the last Ten (10) years with PL.
There are of course, issues that are more important then whether or not Mr. Pierre is graced with officio-nado communist trappings as an officially sanctioned opposition in a one party state set up.
The results of the last National Assembly election render the Constitution of the 3rd Republic non functional. Hence, Mr. Gappy as Commissioner of Elections, along with the Election Commission, should have had the courage, to render the National Assembly election “Null and Void”, because the results did not meet minimal requirements of the 3rd Republic Constitution. If this very smart move had been made,
would have been spared much grief today and much embarrassment. The Commission and Mr. Gappy himself would have earned credibility for doing the right thing at a difficult moment. Seychelles
The first requirement is the provision for a Leader of Opposition. There is none. Hence this National Assembly, the farce it has become, will become even more silly, and all decisions made by this House, will be challenged in the courts, because the House has not met the fundamental constitutional requirement of fielding an opposition leader.
Those MNA’s who were sworn in laughing and joking, and could not help themselves, need to know, the joke is on you communist folks, and you are becoming the laughing stock of the Indian Ocean, overnight.
When the pirates find out about the mess PL created and was masterminded by Danny Faure and James Michel, they will come and offer themselves as a viable opposition to replace Zeeda Party for less ransom fees.
Second requirement is that debate flourishes from the floor of divergent views necessary in a democratic society, as highlighted in the provision of National Assembly, and the Preamble of the Constitution. There are no divergent views in this National Assembly.
This situation is pure intellectual in- breeding at play in the National Assembly. It is like a Brother being the Father, of a baby girl, whose Mother, is his Sister, and that makes his baby girl, his Niece, and he is his Daughters’………, Uncle!
Third requirement, involves the CAA. The Leader of Opposition is to nominate one member of the Constitutional Appointments Authority (CAA) to make this constitutional appointments authority functional and democratic.
Fourth requirement, is the Public Appeals Board, wherein the Leader of the Opposition has to nominate one member, hence on the matter of public appeals, this provision will become non functional. What a mess. Sorry, it is worse, a mess you can clean up, ….. what a farce.
Sixth requirement is the placement of the Leader of Opposition on the Protocol list. There is none hence, there is no placement.
Still Birth National Assembly
We have a still birth National Assembly. It is unfortunate the Election Commission did not pronounce the election results “null and void” and call fresh elections at a suitable time. Had they done that, we would know we have 60 days to sort this mess, and the President could set democratic reforms in place, and work overtime, instead of working under time to drag them out. Now, even if they work over time as Mr. Herminie suggested, their work, will likely, not even be legal.
Let the farce play itself out, but do not say that I did not warn you! A farce, can easily turn into a circus! Circuses that are not managed right, can have the big tent falling on itself when it is least expected.
Sesel Pou Seselwa!
May God Bless All Freedom Loving Seychellois!
