So who is representing the fishing industry on this one??

OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT
PRESS RELEASE

06.12.2011

ESTABLISHMENT OF THE NATIONAL ECONOMIC COUNCIL

President James Michel has announced the creation of a National Economic Council which will have the function of advising Government on the best economic policy for sustainable national growth and development.
The Council will meet regularly to discuss matters raised by its Members, or referred to it by the Government. The Council may commission and analyse such data and information as may be required to enable it to advise Government on suitable economic strategies, and to determine the extent to which existing national programmes meet strategic economic objectives.
In announcing the setting up of the Council, the President noted that the world economy is becoming increasingly fragile, and it was important for Seychelles to ensure that its national development strategy was founded on a thorough understanding of the economic environment and the dynamics of the emerging forces shaping the future of the world economy.
“Continued economic success depends on the cooperation of all stakeholders. Working for the benefit of Seychelles is paramount in every decision-making process. The National Economic Council will serve as a hub for information, debate and advice, in the process of developing sound national economic policy,” the President said.

The President will chair the National Economic Council. Its Vice-Chair will be the Vice-President and Minister responsible for Finance, Mr Danny Faure.

The other Members of the NEC are:

Minister Joel Morgan – Minister of Home Affairs, Environment, Transport & Energy;

Mr Pierre Laporte – Governor of the Central Bank of Seychelles;

Dr V Ramadoss – Chairman of the Seychelles Chamber of Commerce & Industry;

Mr Conrad Benoiton – Managing Director of Appleby, a company specializing in Financial Services;

Mr Brijesh Jivan – an Investment Advisor in the private sector;

Too busy making sure the" usual suspects" are appointed over and over again that they could not think to appoint a representative of an important sector of our ECONOMY, FISHING ,especially now with Piracy having negatively affected it..

Surely the head of the central bank, and the minister for Finance and industry BOTH failed to note the importance of the FISHING SECTOR??

You would think the head of the fisheries Association has something to say about this?

and Mr. Sinon as well ?

Funny. The forum is made of Ministers and Civil Servants who are in any case actually paid to advise the govt. There is no logic in these apptmts and not representative of the economic actors of the country. The private sector is poorly represneted, one wld have hoped that a person in the calibre of Bernar Pool or Joe Albert or Mason..or Malika Jivan (a very good a/ctant) be part of this forum but NO we get idiots like Ramadoss and Benoiton.

Covering up their asses!

Where are our leaders? When are we going to get political? The people are frustrated with the way this government is running our country and right now we are in disarray and waiting for a leader to rise. Who is going to risk getting arrested to stir the pot of our revolution?

How I wish Gerard was here to guide us through this vague moment of uncertainty?

Sad. I have more concern related to the minds and actions of the leader(s) of this government. He lacks understanding of what makes an economy. Now he is preoccupied with tourism only. What about fisheries as mentioned, and of course our agriculture. It is a pity, one cannot realize that economic issues does not stand there in a vacuum . It will not work without associating it with other sectors to see the interactions.Do they seriously think in a box.

..Well, we should not get too worried and concerned about the appointment, it is simply just another appointment to give the impression of change and fresh blood.

Fisheries has been neglected for years.

When the Praslin fishermen had to go after this killer shark, SFA did not have No 12 or No11 fish hooks.

It was a joke.

I had to personally see to it that the fishermen on Praslin got the supply thru help of key NGO.

Let's get serious about our economy.

No fisheries representation, as the budget show, means no real interest or vision.

Tourism players named are of no use if Michel does not open the skies and Seychelles grant 5th Freedom Rights for airlines from Europe to land here, take passengers onward to another region destination. This means airline prices will drop, and seats will remain full. Airlines and agents will marry Seychelles with other regional destination, and the synergy needed in the downturn to focus on the region as opposed from Caribbean will have been achieved.

Its time to wake up. The next wave of challenges will not be kind to sleeping leadership.

The days of mock fake presidency is over. The days of camera-ing your way through the mess is over.

People are opening their eyes everyday.

This offers, great encouragement and we should all focus on the optimism change brings.

The change of course, is first attitude, then approach.

Right now, Michel is doing the same-o same -o fake economic committees we have seen for years.

I wish of course, he can prove me wrong.

Press Conference has been loaded on Facebook.

It is being loaded on the reality blog but it takes time.

Our IT system is slow in Seychelles.

SBC has not covered it, while they do cover SNP nonsense.

We will just put it on cd and distribute it as Xmas- New Year presents to Seychellois.

Aren't we suppose to have a local group that is monitoring the behaviour of SBC? Were they present at the press conference? If so, what are their recommendation?

David Savy has been left out of the NEC. I wonder if he was offered a seat and refused to be part of it.

Anonymous said...

Wasn't any space left for him I'm afraid. Ramadoss and the fat slob Glenny Savy are both so huge that they each occupy 2 seats.

Anonymous said...

they are huge and "living ":the good life..however they are not very smart..carry on like that they could just drop dead from the side effects of obesity! carry on! we will be well rid of them! The planet will be better off and certainly Seychelles will !

Come on, you can do better than that! OK, now get away from the mirror and try harder. Maybe you will come up with a better explanation for your deficiency. Assassination of characters is not enough to get you off the hook.
