The Last Air Seychelles Flight

On Monday April 30th, 2012, the last Air Seychelles flight of the last Boeing 767-300 series left Seychelles quietly, without any SBC coverage of the event. It was captained by Nicole Chang Leng, First Officer Simon Maria, and eight (8) crew. Destination Abu Dhabi, UAE, with an onward destination unknown, likely a scrap yard. The Etihad leadership at Air Seychelles has said: "NO" to Boeing planes and they intend on replacing all Air Seychelles planes which were all on lease with Air Bus planes to configure into the Etihad structure of maintenance and operations. The proposal for a 737-800 ER is now a dead thought, as Etihad owns Air Seychelles and calls the shots.

To view the last plane taking off from the Seychelles International Airport was indeed a sad day, and the crew on board, were all just as saddened. How deep this sadness will go into the public state of mind we do not know yet, but so far, it has hit a deep, deep cord in those that loved Air Seychelles, even to the point, where they would vote for SPPF/PL with the single hope that they will never let Air Seychelles down.

Those who want to know why there is such a deep silence in Seychellois society today, are now given a hint. Do not be uncomfortable with the silence, it is a protest manifestation for people whose dignity has been raped year after year. When they stand up and speak out, you will know they have retaken their dignity and lived beyond the deception and manipulation of the communist who failure follows them, like a tail tied to a deceptive dragon that eats its own young to live for another day.

Beyond A Let Down!

The sell out of Air Seychelles to Etihad is beyond a simple let down. Behind this commercial deal is years and years of failed management by the top brass who made the decisions to fly to Maldives, cancel Maldives, fly to Falklands, cut Falklands, take another plane from Veiling Areo, redo the seats, repaint the tails, give the plane back to Veiling, put the other planes in the plane car park, redo a new VIP lounge, make it out of bamboo, but import it from Singapore, where there is no bamboo, build a office building, then fire the staff so there will be more room in the office building as a consequence. One (1) million Dollars here, one (1) Million Dollars there, it did not matter, someone had the power to spend as he wished, and the Board approved whatever was done, until when a protest was heard, the protester was fired. The frivolous spending without proper business plans, went on, until it could not go on any longer. Then it stopped and the sell out to Etihad started and was completed without the public ever knowing it was ongoing. For that, you will find passengers for Etihad Air Seychelles on the map. Look carefully. One may consider giving the seats away to fill the flights or use a 20 passenger plane from Abu Dhabi, the centre of the World I have been told.

In all this morass at Air Seychelles, the bottom line is that Air Seychelles leadership lost touch with what made it a great airline in its best days: it served the Seychelles well, by serving the Tourism Industry as our flag ship of marketing of our destination. Without Air Seychelles flying direct routes to our main European markets, Air Seychelles itself is doomed, and the Tourism Industry in Seychelles will continue to run on Two (2) pistons, instead of all Eight (8). Hence the optimistic projections of IMF of 2% growth rate in 2012. It may just be lower then that in real terms when you cut the fancy assistance package proposed by India. Aid is not growth. Aid is steroids for growth.

Monday April 30th, 2012 Was A Sad Day

It was a sad day indeed on Monday April 30, 2012. The last Air Seychelles Boeing left the Seychelles International Airport, and the reporters at SBC, who left their dignity at the Victoria Hospital at birth, did not even have the decency to cover the event.

Air Seychelles Staff Keep Your Head Up High

I call on all Air Seychelles staff to hold your heads up high, be proud, because you made us all proud of Seychelles. Air Seychelles has left us, but she did not leave because of you......she survived all these years of failed management at the leadership level.......because of the staff at Air Seychelles!

Seselwa Unite!

Sesel Pou Seselwa!

May God Bless All Freedom Loving Seychellois and Our Beloved Seychelles!

What a shame PP.that such an important comapany that our tourism industry depend on must close because of fourty years of mis-management.corruption, pereptrated by David Savy and PP.It is more painful for we know if all those millions of ofreign aids would have been invested intelligently and not stolen by PP we could save this important compnay from being illegally gifted to Etihad in orrder ot pleased Khalfia, promote his own Airline while destroying Seychellois bread basket.

Pp told us ,it was just impossible to save Air Seychelles from bankrupcy, which is an excuse that no single Seychellois will ever taske for granted unless you a communist. Why?In 2011 the Assembly voted sr 30 million rupee to bailed Air Seychelles instead of investing the money to save the AAirline David Savy illegally invested it into building a Building which was not a priority nor a need and even the most important thing to do,and morevover no one in PP governemnt ever audited the cost of this Building to see if the 30 millions was really invested in this building or it was worth the amount. In fact, none know how mush it costed.Furthermore all those multi-millions being handed over to PP by foreign donors could have helped the survival of our National compnay if PP would have use the money as it should ,but under PP thugocracy million of foreign donors money just vanished without any body knowing where all those millions go,for PP do keep audits nor practice accountability and transparency.

Pp knwe for years that the company has problem ,should PP had reacted years before by finding the right strategy ,fixing the problems went it presented itself from the very first day ,today this importat comapny would has still be the pirde of our small country ,but unfortunately PP are too greedy and illiterate in economy that our company ended in the dustbin, while a broken country still at war, still divided like Afganitan is operating its own Air Lines.
It is not finish, through the years PP did find millions to illegally bailed out a private comapny "EDEN ISland"with tax payers money ,instead of illegally bailing out pirvate bussinesses with tax payers money PP should instead used the millions to keep Air Seychelles on track.

If PP would not have stolen u$ 2,5 billions from the poepl's coffers today we would have enough money not just to bailed out Air Seychelles but our country would hacve not been begging and living of firegn charity.

In a words ,if our national companies, and country are in this shit it si mainly becuase of acorruption, theft, perpetrated by PP crooks over the decades which have emptied our coffers while those monkeys have now made themselves multi-millionaires qwith the peoples money.

To the little donkey whose brain is limited to think hby himslef. He question is Who is more stupid GIll or Michel?I will tell donkey.Have Michel any not Diplomat but certificate in gardening he may as obtained for FAR ?I was told no he couldn't even convicned his master for a fake ceertificate in gardeing,so the naswer must be clear by now, unless you are more stupid than Michel that you stil donot get it.

This is the last Air Seychelles 'Boeing' flight. It is also the new begining of a new Air Seychelles Airbus Fleet. We need foreign supporters such as HRH Sheikh Khalifa to help us run our airline. We tried with Prince David Savy & Co, but failed miserably. We will try with HRH Khalifa and review the situation in say 2 years time. Be Positive - Look at the glass half full instead of half empty. It is now some 5 months since Air Seychelles suspended direct flights to Europe - Our overall arrival figures are still up (be it from the rest of the world). We need to work hard in the European markets, they are in a double dip recession afterall! For your information the likes of Emirates, Etihad & Qatar works very well for a lot of European passangers. All these Middle Eastern Carriers flies from regional airports in various European countries. In England it is a fact that Emirates provides a much better service to regional passangers from Birmingham, Newcastle, Scotland, Manchester, Ireland etc... They have up to 4 daily flights from some UK airports. The passanger needs only transiting in Dubai rather than Heathrow. For your information, one would rather transit through Dubai instead of Heathrow. Let us capitalise on the Middle Eastern Carriers strengths rather than plod on with the same old ways ! We should all be ready to embrace positive change.....A concerned Seselwa

To the crews of HM,one advice the worst is over. Just hang in there. The good days are on the way.

A.S.A.

You contradict yourself, like Michel.

You say Europe is in a double dip recession. But you also say that Etihad and Emirates are working very well with European passengers.

Some countries are in recession. But there are millions and millions of Europeans still in jobs -- there is no double dip recession for them. They can afford their holidays.

Young people who are unemployed in Greece, Spain etc were never going to holiday in Seychelles.

Don't use Europe's economic problems as the SCAPEGOAT for Parti Lepep's incompetence in managing the country.

Anonymous said...

Much of europe is not in recession. Only parts of europe is in recession.

Anonymous said...

I agree with you there are some rich Europeans that can still afford to holiday in Seychelles. Air Seychelles was subsidizing a lot of the European Travel Agents ! Air Seychelles did not give much notice to these travel agents before they stopped direct flights. It takes a little while for the European Travel Agents to set up new deals with the Middle Eastern carriers. Give it another 6 months European traffic should show improvements. However, I do not agree that all is well in Europe despite the double dip recession. The downturn does indeed have a negative effect ! A concerned Seselwa

1. Germany - 3.5% growth. Condor is coming in with full flights, but they do not want to put additional flight becuase landing fees are higher then Air Seychelles Etihad.

2. Norway per capita is $102,000.00 per annum. Thai airways smell this opportunity and does direct flights to Oslo. Since that started, the Norway market and Scandanavian market has dipped.

Most of Northern Europe is not fledging like Italy, Spain Greece. So the natural opportunities rests there for Seychelles.

Instead, what we have done is simply pull out.

The traditional French market is still there. But they do not want to hub in Abu Dhabi.

See details of
Airbus a320 below:The Airbus A320 family consists of short- to medium-range, narrow-body, commercial passenger jet airliners manufactured by Airbus Industrie.[Nb 1] The family includes the A318, A319, A320 and A321, and the ACJ business jet. Final assembly of the family in Europe takes place in Toulouse, France, and Hamburg, Germany. Since 2009, a plant in Tianjin in the People's Republic of China has also started producing aircraft for Chinese airlines.[3] The aircraft family can accommodate up to 220 passengers and has a range of 3,100 to 12,000 km (1,700 to 6,500 nmi), depending on model.

The first member of the A320 family—the A320—was launched in March 1984, first flew on 22 February 1987, and was first delivered in 1988. The family was soon extended to include the A321 (first delivered 1994), the A319 (1996), and the A318 (2003). The A320 family pioneered the use of digital fly-by-wire flight control systems, as well as side-stick controls, in commercial aircraft. There has been a continuous improvement process since introduction.

On 1 December 2010, Airbus officially launched the new generation of the A320 family with the A320neo "New Engine Option".[4] Offering a choice of the CFM International LEAP-X or Pratt & Whitney PW1000G, combined with airframe improvements and the addition of Sharklets, the aircraft will deliver fuel savings of up to 15%. Virgin America will be the launch customer for the aircraft in spring of 2016. As of 31 December 2011, a total of 1,196 A320neo family aircraft have been ordered by 21 airlines making it the fastest ever selling commercial aircraft.[5]

As of October 2011, a total of 4,858 Airbus A320 family aircraft have been delivered, of which 4,765 are in service. In addition, another 3,255 airliners are on firm order. It ranked as the world's fastest-selling jet airliner family according to records from 2005 to 2007, and as the best-selling single-generation aircraft programme.[6][7][8] The family's direct competitors are the Boeing 737, 717 and 757.

Ethiad management ridicules David Savy and makes Allain St Ange the laughing stock of the day while they also show that our hotelier school is a waste of time!!

If anyone viewed that footage which showed the crew undergoing training in abhu dhabi one would laugh their heads off as the lady doing the show on TV claimed our crew would be professionals and better equipped for the job!

From my experience as one of the top profiled aviation individuals i believe the Arabs are taking all of you for fools, the airbus a320 one only requires what we so call aircraft knowledge in this you get what we call conversion and for flight deck type rating.

Crew should only be made aware of the fire extinguisher positions the PA systems and how to arm and disarm the front and aft door and also how to deploy the life raft in case of a fire. The rest one can simply read it from the manual.

The bigger job is the flight controls which the flight deck officers goes through but then again the principles of flying stays the same. Why is it that david savy is being ridiculed on the standards of his cabin crew service on board? I far more preferred the air Seychelles service than ethiad because sometimes in full flight these guys close all blinds and respect their religion and by that i mean the screaming of Allah and all that!

Where is the comfort in that? Babies sleeping or minors will have to wake up those who has had a tiring flight will be disturbed and many more!

But from my aviation point of view this is not the case the case is to whom are these training and purchase of the a320 being billed on ethiad air Seychelles or just air Seychelles, or is it a gift?

Well it is no gift but a debt that air Seychelles will incur unfortunately not by choice! Ethiad has taken air Seychelles for fools they made them spend thousands for conversion and the bill is paid to abhu dhabi and the accommodations even food and beverage, and other accessories also the cost of repainting an a320 which they will no longer need and refurbishing as well as the purchase which the money goes to ethiad itself for a second hand plane! All in it ethiad profits Seychelles loses. What a joke!!!

CPTL Germain, I respect your views, but do not agree with all of them. For the past 7 years, I have travelled regularly on Qatar and Emirates (ave once a month), I have never experiences the unnecessary closing of blinds and screaming of Allah and all that. With regards to Seychelles losing out I fully agree with you. Unfortunately we are helpless and have to go with the flow. Seselwa has always lost out to the Savy & Adam Royal Family and a hanful of seselwa fabrike. Nothing new in this department, we now have HRH Khalifa jumping on the bandwagon.(Tir dan la barb, bez dan moustas) We have no choice, but to go with the flow to keep our tourism industry going. We are in a catch 22 situation. We cannot start a revolution, it will have a bad effect on our image and Tourism industry. We need to engage politically to improve the system. I feel the situation has improved under Misel but we have a long way to go. Can Misel deliver for the entire Seselwa ? I doubt he can do it in his lifetime. PP has embarked on a programme of improvements, the opposition has to be strong and united to keep PP in check. A Concerned Seselwa

Wihle i agree with many things that have been said,i must ^disagree with the last blogger when he said"We are helpless we mu7st go with the flow to keep our tourism industry going".The infact is the all of the onctary, since Pp thugs decdied to sell out our Airline to his Arab Friend Khalifa our tourism industry down fall has accentuated and all those codeshare St Ange is trying to put up with Ethopian Airline,Etihad and the rest have not had any positive effect on the industry.Waht is clear by now is we would need to have a direct flight from Europe/seychelles(meaning wiothut transit in Dubai or elsewhere9,for St Ange and PP understanding of direct flight semm to be a obligatory transit to Duabai or somewhere in the Arab worlds.Should Air Seychelles well-amanagement and well-audited and Pp govenremnt would have bring Savy to accouts today we will not be in this shit.We are where we are mainly becuase of PP corrutped and unable regime.

On revolution.Dictators like using catchwords such as STABILITY,unity,Rennaisance moral ,etc.. to try and keep themsleves on power instead of taking their responsibility .We have been hearing the word STABILITY coming from PP cronies and parrots. These same words we also heard from Mubarak,Gadafi,Ben Ali and others used as execused to hide their autocratic regimes and human rights violation and was also a means to subjugate further their people into force slavery. In other words PP is trying to tell us that we THE PEOPLE should not exercise our legitimate rights to remove them becuase the country needs stability and stability can only exist under PP thugocracy and no thoer parties or persons would be able to keep stability of our country than PP,It must be PP crooks and thieves. Thus keeping them on power even when they are the one responsible for our country's broken economy, poverty, bankrutpcy and the destruction of the country's unity qwould be committing suicide.

PP will have to change and will ahve to give back the people their motherland. And if you donot change by conducting electoral refroms, reforms that will lead to democratization of the country, i can asure you a people revolution is invevitable.

Unstability (rather people revolution )that Pp fears is due becuase of-low regime legitimacy, lacf coersive power, economic backwardness, cultural heterogeneity.structural simplicity etc..

In order to have stability the best thing pp cAN,DO AND SHOULD DO IS-conduct rapid and genuine reforms else sooner than laterr Pp wil hear those freedom drums circling his autocratic palce of illusion.

Time for regime change.

Reply to Catch 22 Concerned Citizen-

There is no catch 22.

The sell out of Air Seychelles to Etihad must not be looked upon as a tourism panacea for Seychelles. It is not. It is a bottle neck if anything, that will strangle the main markets of Seychelles unless direct flights are initiated by Air Seychelles or other independent carriers.

To do this, we need to set an aviation policy. We have none. We need to streamline ministry of transportation with Ministry of Tourism. We need to level the playing field in rates charged for ground services. Right now Etihad Air Seychelles has a favourable home turf advantage that threatens to cause the pull out of other carriers. If the field is levelled on rates at the airport more business can come to Seychelles.

In July the Routes Africa Conference will be hosted in Seychelles. If we cannot get our aviation house in order by then, we will be hosting steam ship conventions to Seychelles, in the hope of attracting visitors to our shores, like we did before the airport.

Etihad is making sure that Air Seychelles never flies to Europe (or anywhere beyond Abu Dhabi) again by changing HM's planes. Of course we must blame Michel, Savy, Rene and Parti Lepep for that, not the business-minded and profit-making Etihad.

Who said our problems are caused by recession Europe ? Yet, Parti Lepep is celebrating today because Etihad has put on Paris-Abu Dhabi flights. If there are no tourists, why put on flights for planes to fly empty ?

Etihad seems to think that the recession in some European countries is not a problem for them to fill their planes.

Changing planes in Abu Dhabi to get to Seychelles will still be a sticking point for many tourists.

Our problems are created by Parti Lepep and they are very good at blaming others for these problems.

Etihad will not sell tickets for Air Seychelles and will not allow its European passengers to travel on Air Seychelles from Abu Dhabi to Seychelles, unless Air Seychelles is Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, in all but name.

Parti Lepep has dragged this country into the ground.

Etihad has a long term strategy to control the market completely and one way of achieving that os by destryoing other airl ines.As a Qatar Airways spoken person said recently to a european newspaepr quote"Weare not in the Business of restructing or bailing out other airlines but we are in a bisiness"same strategy is that of Etihad. Moreover, why is it necessary for any negociation going on with other airlines ETHPIAN AIRLINES;AIR FRACNE and tohers all those airlines musr be frcoed to transit in Dubia?Waht is there in Dubai that passengers who wants to visit solely our country must be forced to transit there St Ange?Indain Prime Minister has offrede u$75 millions to Seychelles may be PP should use the money in helping Air Seychelles rather than stealing all those millions for PP never acout for those iads and loans.

Is Etihad telling us that we have been getting a second rate service all these years by Air Seychelles ?

Anonymous said...

Whatever the rate,Etihad has a long term strategy to be world number one airline and to achieve its objective, etihad is going to use all means to get there ,that includecontroling Aisen and Afircan markets, destroying National Airlines in Asia and Africa, reduce them to secondary airlines to Etihad thus make them uncompetitors.Morevoer,by using the code sharing system,it allows Etihad to circumbent restrictive landing rights that only foreign govenremnt have placed to prtoect their National Airlines therefore does not have to pay landing fees etc...The strategy does not only helps etihad to bypass bilateral air rights but also to minize risk in uncertain times,in the sense that when the market goes empty it has less to loss for it uses others resources and aircrafts, although it also has less to gain in an up market when it shares revenues with other airlines.
Eithad strategy is a cut-throat one that have already jeopardized the viability of European Airlines(Air Berlin,AeGER)and other Airlines, in Asia such as Philipinnes Airline...Etihad code sharing deals
ith Thai Air for instance,Ahve had negative effect of tourist arrival on Thia's most famous tourist destination PUNKET ISLAND,like Seychelles,Punket Island no long has direct flgiht from Europe rsulting in a fall of arrival thus million of dollar in lost.

Pp must be reminded, waht our people and business persons directly dependent on tourism is that they want to see Air Seychelles taking back its most lucrative route namely a direct flghit from Seychelles-Europe.And this for one simple reason, our economy depends on tourism while we all agree that we must lokk for, develop other markets it is clear also that you do not search new amrkets by destryoing your main market.New markets should be to contribute to extends our own market but not buried existing ones.

One does notchange or destroy what works but perfect it to be more performance.
