Let’s save our coco de mer before it’s too late - 10.05.2012

Recently I paid two persons to harvest some nuts on my property (51 plants) as I wanted to gift my niece a perfect nut on the occasion of her wedding in Seychelles.

They came down three hours later to inform me that four female plants had been down. I reported the matter to Fond B’offay and coming out I informed environmentalist Mr Laboudallon also… He said:

“Yes, this is the way it is going as there is a black market demand and the sellers are felling down trees for unscrupulous dealers and that in the not too distant future our descendants will only read about the coco de mer”.

Last Sunday I related the matter to Mr Michel Gardette of Praslin Development Fund and he confirmed the trend. He gave me statistics of previous harvests and stock of nuts which paints a gloomy picture for the future of this Seychelles legacy.

About six years ago, I sold a nut to an American living in the mountain of Hawaii and he now has a young tree. It could well happen that Hainan island of mainland China could one day boast a plantation of coco de mer to experience a new Vallée de Chine.

I am relieved however to mention that after the verdict of the appeals court allowing me to develop my property at Anse Lazio I will be able to afford security to protect the remaining coco de mer female plants as well as to buy nuts to plant anew… thus ensuring that at least on one corner of Praslin the coco de mer will flourish.

I am writing to alert the authorities that we will soon reach a point of NO RETURN to rehabilitate our national symbol.

If we fail to control effectively the export of coco de mer, Seychelles will eventually lose this exotic plant which forms part of our tourism assets.

Three weeks ago, a thief stole two nuts at my Glacis house, leaving my daughter’s laptop and bicycle etc.. This shows what value the coco de mer has…

On thing is clear ,since the butcher took offcie fro FAR we have been experiencing a maasive destruction of our ecosystem, environemnt .flora and fauna and in most case perpetrated by ofriegners who have brided ,corrutped PP crooks to allow to disrespect our laws and just do what they want.

The butcher and foreigne friends records of their destruction.

-Khlaifa poluted pur rivers at La Misere with his shit.
Russan disrespect construction law ar beau vallon including destroying wetland.
-Raffle Hotelon Praslin chopped down hectars of land teemed with endemic trees, plants etc just to build an ugly hotel.

Edne isalnd beach polution
_swage spilling in waters

And now our endemic and uniqu Coco de mer beiny stoleen for probably foreign markets and knowing Chinese appetite forexotic plants etc for aphrodisiac purposes and the willingness to build a fantasy land on Hanian isalnd China one can presume their is a well-connected gang behind those thefts with a well .organized perchaser.

Under the butcher Presidentcy and all his ofreign firends our environemnt has been destroyed in a few years more than our won people has destry it in 300 years of existance as a Nation. And keeping or allowing PP to grab to power illegally will no doubt bring with it more destruction unless we get those monkeys out as sooner possible.

To Mr Talma,it is right and i support you for your concern but it must be noted that when you said you sold a nut to a Hawain six years ago that he planted it and is now growing -your action is also help making the situation vulenrable ,for firstly no one including the ogvenremnt should be allow to sell whole nut or allow its importation exactly to avoid what you are concern about. For in today's world with the fast development of gentic amipulation and so on ,one could imagine if our nuts get access to foreigners such as Chinese ,bygentic modification i can imagine in years to come they would be able to reproduce the coco nut tree thus its proliferation. Mr Talma might have not think about it six years ago but this mistake should not be repeated.

It's all a plot by Muslim invaders. They want to destroy the coco-de-mer cause it's insulting to their religion of terror. They try to ban it on the passport and now they want to irradicate it completely from our land before the settled down completely. The sight of our coco-de-mer makes them uncomfortable. THey feel they are becoming infidel like us when they look at it hence the reason for their various schemes to get it on our land

In this case we have heard PP calling on Seychellois to come out and provide infos etc.. of which i am not complaining of,for i think it is a civic duty of every citizen to participate in the fight against this gang of thieves. But did the police of Prasling tow ,three weeks before arrested two persons on the crimes scene? Why has PP not get infos from the culprits? For it is clear that the two persons arrested were not just stealing coco de mer just fror the shake of doing it.Theyurely had a contrac, were paid by another peorson to do it,or knew were they can sell it and it seems it is a very lucrative deal that they did not hesistate to pereptuate their acts during day light. The two arrested should have at least in my opinion able to give infos that should have allowed the police to trace back to the BOSS if not to anothers involve in these criminal acts. But why has PP police not get the inofs from the tow persons arrested? Is it becuase of bad investigation, their inefficaity to conduct an investigation, they never been trained properly to conduct an investigation,or simply they just know nothing about policing etc..?

We have 50 plants each of male and female of 75 -90 years in South East Asia, flowering and fruiting regularly.
But to protect these beauties, they are still in a unvisited corner of our national parks of a un-named countries.
