Tourism diversification key to ongoing success for Seychelles

Aug 26, 2012
The Seychelles Tourism Board is continuing its policy of diversification of its tourism markets. China was one of their main initial targets in diversification which saw the President of Seychelles personally lead delegations to open that market. This week, it is Brazil that is receiving a delegation from the Seychelles headed by Alain St.Ange, the island’s Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture, accompanied by David Germain, their Tourism Board’s Director of Africa and the Americas, and Myra Fanchette, their Marketing Executive responsible for this market.
They are all in the South American State of Brazil to participate in the Explore South Africa Road Show 2012 that will see the Seychelles Minister deliver an address at the programmed Seychelles Evening on Monday, August 27, where some 150 media and Brazilian trade partners have already confirmed their presence.
The Seychelles delegation is set to also address a press conference on Monday afternoon.
When in Sao Paulo in Brazil, the Seychelles Minister will also be part of the launch of the new catalogue by the Brazilian Fashion House who visited Seychelles earlier this year for their photo shoot accompanied by some of Brazil’s top models.
After their arrival in Sao Paulo on Saturday evening, the Seychelles Minister and his delegation were received by Mr. Luiz F. Picollo, the Seychelles Consul in Brazil, and by Mr. Abel Ferreira de Assis, the Consulate Legal Advisor. This meeting showcased the strong working partnership existing between the Ministries of Tourism and Foreign Affairs of these mid-ocean islands. The Seychelles Consul who holds business interests in both Brazil and Paraguay will work more closely with the Seychelles Tourism Board in its efforts to open the South American tourism market for Seychelles through South Africa and also through the different Middle East hubs that are today working in Brazil.
Mr. Luiz F. Picollo, the Seychelles Consul in Brazil, has now accepted to start immediately to show a Seychelles promotional DVD in the six Cinema Halls he owns in Ascencion in Paraguay. The promotional DVD will be aired nightly before the start of the films.
The Seychelles Consul explained that Paraguay is a landlocked country, and new beach holiday destinations are always being looked for. The Seychelles Consul will also be working with the Tourism Board to get a group from Paraguay to participate in the Seychelles annual Carnaval International de Victoria.
During his stay in Brazil, Minister Alain St.Ange will also be meeting with the Samba School of Carnaval and Globo TV.
The policy of diversification of the Seychelles Tourism Markets was launched a couple of years ago by the island’s President, Mr. James Michel, when he personally held the tourism portfolio. President Michel headed different delegations to China and India with the aim of opening these two markets. It was during these visits that MOUs were signed in China with the BTS Tour Operator of China in the presence of local private sector businesses and the Air Seychelles Beijing representative after a presentation of Seychelles was made to the BTS Group of companies. This was followed by the signing of more MOUs in Hong Kong between the Seychelles Tourism Board and a dozen Hong Kong and Macau tour operators again after a Seychelles presentation by representatives of the Seychelles hotels, destination management companies, and Air Seychelles.
Minister St.Ange explained that the President’s personal involvement paved the way for airlines serving Seychelles to be more focused on China as a market for Seychelles. Many of these airlines participated with the Tourism Board in their stands at Chinese tourism trade fairs, and these efforts have seen a dramatic increase in visitor arrival numbers from China.
“It did not happen by itself. The Seychelles Tourism Board followed the lead by the President of the Republic and opened a new door. The Tourism Board worked to get the destination more visible and the hotels, DMCs, and airlines interested in that market then moved in to get their share of the business. Many are today already reaping the benefits from their work and efforts alongside the Tourism Board,” Minister St.Ange said.
Seychelles is a founding member of the International Council of Tourism Partners(ICTP).

What a joke, we do not even speak the language of these people, how are we going to serve them coffee?

Folks, Alain St. Ange has a justification for his numerous frolics around the world to no man's land and places of no relevance to Seychelles Tourism.

He says that he is implementing President Michel's vision of keeping Seychelles in the news and making Seychelles known around the world.

Well, I have a reply for Mr. President Michel.

That was done by no other James Richard Marie Mancham in the 1970's. Your strategy is about 30 years old and out of touch with the reality of tourism today. Today, you just load a story on Seychelles, the world reads it. What you need to do Mr. President is handle tourism and the issues it faces with resolve. Catch up to reality, and get St. Ange back to work, instead of being on a full year holiday.

St Ange think S .Americans would in their majority would fly 100o hours to come two weekend lying on our beaches when the Carribeans offer them the possibility and it is less cheaper.St Ange traveling is a waste of tax payers' money, for in return the country does not benefit from a single penny. He could also go to Cuab and ask Catros to send some poor cuban tourists just in order that Pp can tell us, Arrival sky-rocket this year.

The main Tourists provider in the world to date, with or without economic crisis is Europe donkey. Not Sir Lanka,Not Afganistan,Not Cuba,Not venezuela,etc...

As to Pp thugocracy ,St Ange should resign now.

Anonymous said...

St Ange is keeping Seychelles name prominent in Brazil, Columbia, Virgin Island, Panama, Chile, so what.

Unbelievable when one contemplates such gross abuse of resources in such a bad situation.

Anonymous said...

A return ticket from the UK to seychelles is around 650-750 pounds sterling.
A return ticket from Brazil to Seychelles via Paris or London Heathrow cost around 1500 to 2000 pounds.
Mr St Ange should realise that tourist in South America would prefer to go the West Indies for a lot less than the Seychelles. It is just plain common sense.
He should concentrate on tourism in Europe rather than South America. He is wasting money and time.

Anonymous said...

In PL we believe Brazil is a emerging market and we can tap into the Brazil market to diversify our tourism portfolio.

The issue of 2000.00 pounds for a trip is not relevant to the Ministry of Tourism.

We do care about making Seychelles known to the world as President Michel declared we should.

Thank you.

The west Indies are a bunch of tropical islands which offer tourists in South America value for money. What they can offer Seychelles cannot offer.
Keep running after a white elephant St Ange. You will end up with Fuck all.

Anonymous said...

Example...The Dominican Rep is a lot cheaper than Seychelles and value for money.Who on earth will take a 20hr flight to the Seychelles? Are you crazy.

Anonymous said...

Ask yourself this question Mr St Ange.
Why is it that the french, british, italians and the south africans prefer to have a holiday in Mauritius rather than the Seychelles?
The simple answer is VALUE FOR MONEY.
Seychelles is too expensive.Mauritius gets around one million tourist a year. You are very bad at promoting Seychelles abroad.

Anonymous said...

Promote it as porn paradise and you will see the amount of tourists that will flock to seychelles in no time!
What do you think?

Anonymous said...

With Dr. Manoo and Ronnie as lead porn stars I do not think Seychelles will break the 150,000 visits per year.

Anonymous said...

Brazilians like expensive bikinis.

So they will like the expensive flight to Seychelles.

They will love the expensive 100.00 Seybrew and the expensive 2000 pounds sterling per night rooms.

Ministry is convinced, this is the right course of action since Brazil is an emerging market. I read it in Financial Times.

St Ange then will go the Amazon to encourage PIVOS indians to travel as toursists to our shores.Note that indigeous inhabitants of America do not go on holiday.

North European are waiting for St Ange for in those Wordic european countires not much have been done by Pp through those deacdes to advertise our country there. They also the richest among European-Swedish,Norwegain,Danish etc...

Here is the BBC questioning James Michel's dream, our nightmare.

Why do so many African leaders die in office?

Here's Wavel Ramkalawan giving it to Rene and Michel with both barrels.

It's 'Another Brick In the Wall' hard-hitting denunciation of Parti Lepep's drugs dealing friendly policy.

Cicero's philippics against Mark Anthony are tame by comparison.

Drugs: A Political Strategy?

The history of drugs in our country is an interesting one. In fact, fascinating, because it has always been linked to politics. Everyone
old enough to remember will tell you that it was the Tanzanian soldiers after the coup who provided a regular supply of marijuana to the local market. Prior to that, cannabis was quite rare. Those in the Black Power Movement, receiving the support of Mr. René managed to get their ‘steam’ regularly, but after the coup d’etat things took a different turn.

The hypocrisy of the politicians in that history is also very important. The same Mr. René, who defended drugs cases and claimed cannabis was harmless and even brought a ‘billie’ once to court and stated it would do him no harm, was the same person who changed the law and imposed a mandatory 2 year sentence on anyone found guilty!

The history of cannabis/hashish changed dramatically in the last 5 years. Whereas before, the youth consumed cannabis then went to work or play football with extra energy when ‘high’, these days they take a shot of heroin, go into a daze, then steal, sell their body
or beg to get the next shot. They are now totally dependent on others and this is where I sense that drugs are part of a political strategy. They can now be easily bought, given money to vote
in a particular way, in fact, enslaved in so many ways. I tried to reflect on whether the war against drugs could be won a couple of weeks back. The answer right now is NO. The reason is very simple: Drugs is an important stone in the political wall. Not only does it bring in money, but through the money,it brings dominance on the part of the leaders and dependence on the part of the others. It has to be kept going or else the wall might fall down.

It is a carefully planned game. This is why people keep asking where are the escobars, but no answer is forthcoming. The promise of James Michel to root out the escobars has been a complete failure, yet the NDEA say they know who the escobars are. This explains another stone in the wall.

There are two types of escobars: those that are on the right side and those who are not. The ones who are caught are on the wrong side. They do not form part of the group that helps maintain
political power and therefore they are targeted and sent to Marie-Louise. Those in the other group prosper, supply the market and destroy our youth.

The ones on the right side are allowed and given the facilities to
operate. Millions go through their hands and they are allowed to have all the wealth, perks and businesses because they are on the right side. Their accomplices are released if arrested. This is little Seychelles for you and me. Open our eyes and see what is happening.

Drugs will continue destroy our country as long as it remains a political strategy. We all come across those escobars. We see them in brand new cars. In fact they have a couple at any one time, they buy properties, travel first classs and in their businesses, they get government contracts as a cover up. How long will we remain blind to the happenings of our land.

I smirk when I hear leaders talk of detox centres. I become angry when I hear politicians talk about the war on drugs. I say: Stop fooling our people with nice words. The war can be won today. Why keep pretending? Why continue being hypocrites?

So the cheapest return ticketfrom Sao paolo to Seychelles via Doha is £2552.57.

Who on earth will want to pay this amount of money just for a return ticket to the Seychelles.........This is the price of a package holiday to the seychelles for 2 weeks from any european countries.

Mr St Ange is crazy. Can he tell me what is projection on the number of tourist expected for 2012/2013 from Brazil?

On Mr Ramkalawan statement on Le Seychellois,18 years too late after giving credibility to Lepep in the presidential election.
All he does nowadays to kill his time is issue monthly statements.
Out of date Ramka!

Ministry believes 50,000 visitors from Brazil will be visiting Seychelles each year.

Brazil is an emerging market and a BRIC country.

This projection justifies the trip by the Minister of Tourism to Brazil. We have brought on Qatar Airways, to bring these visitors to our shores.

They will hub and rest in DOHA.

Ministry is working to bring down the price of the airline ticket from 2500.00 pounds, to 600.00 pounds.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for you reply.....Would it not be better to reduce a return ticket from any European hub from 650 to 300 pounds? That might help to boost the sluggish European market.

Anonymous said...

Majority of our visitors are from Europe not Brazil.

Anonymous said...

Most Brazilians live on less that 300 dollars monthly, which means most of them cannot afford such holiday package offered by St Ange.Norwegian,Swedish, norwegian etc.. are still watiting for St Ange to make them an offer and provide them with direct flight in order that they can start coming to our shores and spend their dollars here. But unfortunately St Ange is amrketing Seychelles in Amazon with Pivos indains, the later do not take hoilday.

Jeanne D'Arc

Anonymous said...

Ministry believes, reducing airfares from Europe to Seychelles is not possible since Air Seychelles no longer flies on this route.

We are working to ask ferries to reduce fares to La Digue.

Anonymous said...

Right. But bringing hotel owners and foreign travel agencies together in order to find a suitableand acceptable price for both on a temporily until things get better.PP can ask Seybrew who has monopoyl on beer and soft drinks to bring temporily down temporarily its price on its products down which will provide hotel owners with the posibility to slightly reduce their prices on rooms drinks.

In order to reduce price all stakers holders from hotel owners, governemnt, travel agencies, airlines etc.. must come together to formulate an emergency master plan in order to save our tourism industry. The blogger says Air Seychelles does not have any more direct flight to Europe which is verx important for the indsutry and country economy then Pp govenremnt with its 60 percent share could ensure that Air Seychelles operates direct flgiht to europe/Seychelles.It should not be a difficult thing to d should St Ange has the will and understand the importacne of having Direct flight.

Insread of St Ange going to Brazil to ask poor PIVOS indains to travel to ur shores,St Ange could have instead flight to AUstralia to advertise our country there for the potential is bigger and in addition to that over 30 thousands Seychelleas reside there and should they have the means to travel to their motherland they will which will in itself provide an increase in tourist arrival.

St Ange should be advertising small and medium hotels/gasthouses not five star hotels which have the means.
St Ange could have gone to EUROPE negociate with important company like Kuoni which also has its own charter flight (Edelweiss).Note This airline has weekly flight to Maldives,S.Africa,Sri Linka,Mauritius,Cuba ,Mexico but not to one of the world ^s nicest island namely Seychelles. Why is that? For we do not have an effective government.

it is a potential for our country but as you say Communists are afraid not becuase many Seychellois living abroad would return home which would be a big boost for our frailing economy ,or being highly qualified in various flieds thus could have easily replace those many under qualified foreigners to the likes fo Scully,LIAM;Ugandan,Tazanian judges etc... Pp most concern is their votes.Pp is very well aware that most Seychellois living abroad enjoy liberty, freedom and would without hesitation vote for politcal parties that reflects liberty, freedom, democracy etc... therefore it would mean the end of Pp thugocracy.

Pp has so far refused to give our citizens abroad their legitimate rights to vote.Michel instead of importing more cheap foreign workers from Sri Lanka to take seychellois jobs and destroy their standard of living could have instead search for Seychellois living in places like Australia,Canada etc...(their English including accent are much better than Indians,Sri lankans and probably better qualified than those cheap Sri lankans invaders).

Pp fear seychellois abroad becuase most of them are democrates.

More entertainment at the carnival = more international media = more tourists = more money for our country. or can you lot not do the math? seriously... it's as though you've run out of things to argue about.

Maybe we need to close all hotels down and find another major industry to keep the country afloat because Seychelles sounds like 2nd best compared to other island nations... what the fuck is wrong with everyone? Looks like the issue is a lack of national pride from seychellois. With that attitude no wonder service is shit in Seychelles. After reading these posts I'd rather go anywhere but Seychelles too!

well done to Minister St. Ange and his industry for not paying any mind to the small minded few on this site. Many laughed when he suggested the Carnival a few years ago - many expected he would fail and could not understand what he hoped to achieve from it. It is now a global attraction and generates much international press and media attention worldwide every year. It expands every year and thanks to Minister St. Ange's tireless efforts and determination, the Brazlian samba dancers (who perform in other carnivals wordwide) have agreed to send a delegation for the 2013 Seychelles Carnival, along with their own media coverage. This is fantastic publicity for seychelles. for those of you on this horrible page who cannot appreciate this, i feel for you...
if seychellois do not support the progress of our country then perhaps you should consider leaving ... because our country does not need you in it. stop pointing fingers at those who are actually benefiting seychelles. your hotels/guest houses/tourist shops NEED and depend 100% on the tourists that are brought in by the tireless efforts of our tourism industry. the number of tourists annually is on the rise - an impressive feat which the tourism industry should take FULL CREDIT for. Now tell me, oh self-righteous ones, what have YOU done to benefit your country lately? From these comments you have left, you are doing it more DAMAGE than GOOD.

i never said and would never say Well-done fialure unless i was a Pp ilk like you.

Brazil sending a delegation of dancers will mean tourists arrival for probably invited them to give some pepe to St Ange carnival thus all their expenses will be paid by Seychellois tax payers' money.Media coverage which would aim at Bralizian population won't change things ,but rather have the brazilian ordinary have money to pay for such a long trip for a destination which is extremely expensive?I thin kthe answer in no.

Again,i would have prefered to see St Ange come to Australia(the region's most important provider of tourists)or instead of wasting seychelois tax payers' money for his expensive holiday in Brazil the money could have been used as ransom to free our two Seychellois fishermen from the hands of Somali pirates.

I don't believe i've ever seen as much International press generated about Seychelles as I have in the last 12 odd months. Surely this is better than anything you've had in the past?

Because Australians do travel as far as to South Africa, even the mediterean for their holiday to.

Well in a democracy a budget of one ministry etc.. won't be used to pay something else but in dictatorship it is normal practice that the country budget(money in genral) is used to sponsor personal agrandisement of ministers and goons, thus why would it be a problem to use tax payers' money(for once usefully) to free two human beings from captivity instead of allowing the money to be wasted to pay St Ange's holiday in Brazil?

Be reminded u$2,5 billion THAT STILL MISSING IN OUR COFFER.

Medias can help Brazilian knowing Sey<chelles, but even if you learn about a country and wanted to visit it WITHOUT money you cannot afford it.And looking about the salry earn by the majority of Brazilains one cnnot say any advertisement of our country in a country like Brazil where amjortiy of the popualtion are poor will increase arrival to our shores.
Another example,it does means if a pocal business imported something new and advertise ti on SBC the people will buy more if the do not have the money. In a word in the ended the fiancial sitaution of a Brazilian will determine if Brazilian can afford such an expensive trip or not ,not necessarily the Medias.

Morevoer,We are not saying that Seychelles should not deversify its tourism industry, but the situation we in, requires of all that we take important actions that would in the first place stabilize the falling industry by for instance, operating direct flight from Europe to Seychelles,(Note North European market is still under advertise by our governemnt),reduce flgiht price.Solve the core of the problem first then you can do the rest.

AUD$2,800 return economy flights alone per person from AUS to SEZ via Dubai. AUD$900 per person from AUS to fiji for a full week's holiday including accommodation in a five star resort...
That missing money is unrelated to what these posts are about. Stop making the water muddy by bringing in other arguments to incite people on this page. I'm not saying that the missing money should be forgotten by any means, I'm just saying to keep to the topic at hand. Everyone seems to think that they are all experts in everything. Do you believe that the tourism Minister should be more like the other ministers including past ministers and stop promoting Seychelles at every opportunity? No one would enjoy travelling that regularly for such short trips.

Anonymous said...

the press he generates on his trips are borderless... Just because he is in Brazil doesn't mean that only Brazilians see it.Having the different countries attend the carnival help make the carnival a destination for tourists who want to experience as much as they can on their holidays. would you travel out of your way to attend a carnival with 3 countries taking part? i wouldn't. but with a chance to sample even more cultures in the one holiday, i'd certainly want to experience it.

It's funny you know. I thought social media was the culprit, but now I think it's the internet in general. Everyone is faceless and hiding behind their computers honestly thinking that their opinion matters. When will society see that we don't care what everyone thinks about everything? Thank goodness decisions aren't based on the opinions of faceless posts of questionable backgrounds and knowledge and are instead made by people who are in positions to have all the relevant information at hand in order to make an informed decision. I don't care where st ange travels, I care that we see the results at the end translated into visitor numbers, spending and employment, and that the economy is still floating because one of its main pillars is being looked after and prioritised. I care that my friends and family all have jobs and can feed their children. That's what I care about. Until we're given reason to question his every move, why should I waste my time caring about why st ange is visiting somewhere promoting our country?

Anonymous said...

It would seriously suck having St.Ange's job. Seychelles is pretty much the same as every other island country in the world. What point of difference do we have? coco de mer? please. the appeal of a nut is limited and not generally worthy enough to travel thousands of miles for. What about our friendly people? don't make me laugh. Seselwa are far from friendly and actually quite rude most of the time. Especially to tourists. Service? not a chance. Value for money? no. So where does that leave a tourism ministry trying to promote us to the world to fill our countless hotels? Maybe we need to unite to have something that is worth promoting before we criticise people who are trying their best to promote us. The fact that they've achieved what they have considerate of the above is almost a miracle.

no one will. especially not the low lifes on this blog. I know now why i haven't paid this blog any attention in the past - have you seen the shit on it? You need to all go and get a life. This is worse than gossiping over the water cooler at lunch time... if this is the basis for Gill's party, you've got a loooooong way to go before you'll ever be a serious contender for anything in life. keep trying to get the sludge to vote for you, you're just as bad as the riff raff supporting you.

St Ange's jaunts abroad have not benefitted the tourism industry.

Jeanne D'Arc i've been trolling through reading your posts and see you have an awful lot of time on your hands. Here's a tip, go and get a job or go and get laid. one or the other may hopefully provide you with a sense of purpose in life as its quite obvious that you've been drifting through life with no direction and only hatred. Would you like Gill to be president? I'd support that just for the amusement that it will provide me. It will make a classic case study for the rest of the world to see as a "what not to do".

As a supposed Hotel owner if you a ashame of waht SFp leadership tp revive the indsutry then you have a problem and your are alone with your oppinion for SHTC and most guesthouse owners disaggred with you.Maybe you one of theose guy like Guy Adams who built who from Seychellois Tax payers and benefitting by doing other illegal deals but not depending of tourism.A genuine hotel owner(mêaning one who built his or her business by his or her own sweat and know what is the cost of hard work won't say a redicule thing as what you've said.

You seems to be a group member of those who acquire their wealth by robbing, cheating Seychellois like Francis Savy,Adams,Chang-leng, and others they are also not conplaining about the free fall of our tourism industry for they never work hard to acquire their wealth but by robbing and money they invested in their big five star hotels mostly came for Money Luandry.

Ooooohhh Jeanne D'Arc , it doesn't feel so good having nasty things said about you now does it? But it won't stop your relentless campaign of inciting negativity. People like you and the rest of the bloggers on this site seem to derive some sort of sick satisfaction from being anti-everything. How about you go take a good look at yourself in the mirror and see whether you like what is looking back at you.

A have my own business and give Seychellis work while the Butcher keeps killing Seychellois jobs and keeps importing cheap labour to help destroy Seychellois jobs.

If you unemeployed likeChapin you must try to divert your problem on others -you could simply ask me if i have a job vacant for you and do have one already for Chapin,i could organize something for you.
You know on Praslin-we have our mountains deforested by wild natural fires and there is a need to rehibilate palnts there to avoid errosion and turn those mountains into the natural beeauty and to complete the job it would take more or less 20 to30 years thus jobs for a generation of Seychellois.

We could also turn Curieuse Isalnd (already a reserve and the only island after Praslin to have coco-de-mer))into a botanical garden whereby endemic flora and fona can be introduce there to make it unique but at the same time give both Seychellois and tourism the meposibility to see many endemic plants etc.. that one usually sees on postcard but never live. For example,How many Seychellois have ever seen a KRAPO?Not a lot.

you "express yourselves and offer criticism" We may have been more impressed if you weren't so centered around negativity. How about looking at what is going right every now and again? And let's get this out there now, what makes you smarter than everyone out there making the hard decisions? Let me see your relevant education and experience first and then i may decide whether i value what you think or whether you're just another know-it-all who really doesn't.

Anonymous said...

obviously its not very hard to start a political party, the hard part is convincing people to follow and support you. Negative campaigns won't hold people to you for long, they'll join you to have a gripe and then they'll move on and use their vote on a party that has more substance attached to it.

"protege son bol di riz" really? is that the best you can do? I'd be surprised if stange was bothered with your site enough for that to happen. If you have something constructive to say, why wouldn't you contact him and tell him yourself? Why not write him an open letter and provide him with an opportuinity to share a response with you? I'll tell you why you wouldn't do that, because aside from negativity, you have nothing. You prefer to incite anger and emotion from others. God forbid you actually provide your supporters with a balanced view and all the information as opposed to the drips and drabs that you choose to focus on. People like you will never run countries.

I can't believe you are all still going on this blog! I gave up after the comments about what tourists we want and what we don't! We seem to want european and australian tourists only. With europe in a bad state, and australians 2 days away which means 4 solid days travelling to and from seychelles, the concept didn't have much in the way of legs to stand on in the first place! Now we're personally attacking people left right and centre! No wonder we get frustrated around here!

The point is this:

A dream sales trip to Brazil to promote tourism is not feasible.

The tickets along cost $4,000.00 each economy.

Let's say those that come stay 14 nights, since it will take 3 nights to overcome the jet lag. They stay in an average $500.00 x 14=$7,000.00.

Without excursions, we now at $11,000.00. With that type of money Brazilians are placing deposits on apartments in Maimai Florida.

I rest my case, and I urge St. Ange to get back to sorting out the real problems of Tourism, and dealing with the real issues, our industry partners of three decades face.

Those of you who choose to shoot the messenger, instead of heeding the message, I have this little message for you: everyone who wants Seychelles to excel, must speak up, because we are already on a reef of failed policies. If you do not believe me, ask one question:"why is IMF here?"

Reply to Trip Advisor-

Well on Trip Advisor they do report thefts, not just at our establishment, but all of Seychelles.

We have one theft last year and one the year before. In 2006 2007 there was a spree because Police went nil by mouth, under James Michel Administration.

How many thefts do we have on Praslin each year?

How many thefts do we have on La Digue each year?

How many on Mahe each year?

I do not run Mahe, Praslin or La Digue. St. Ange and Morgan handle that.

Nice try. But I suggest you focus on the real issues, and leave my business out of it. My business, is my business, not yours.

The Truth is that there are over 450 thefts each month in Seychelles.

If my hotel has one in a year and one in the past year, we have a pretty damn good record.

5400 thefts per annum.

I will spare the details. But it means of all couples travelling to Seychelles 25% of them will be robbed.

What the hell is PL doing about this?

What is St. Ange doing about it?

He is the Minister of Tourism and he is responsible for the safety of all Tourists, before anyone else.

Frolicking in Brazil will not solve that problem, so don't take you rubbish and dump it on my door step, because you are desperate and vulnerable to critic that is valid.

Reply to "Minister on the Run"-

Tourism security becomes an issue of Tourism Minister, when Internal Affairs fails to deliver public safety to hotels and tourist especially.

On my business comment, my business is my business, not yours.Simple.

Issues that face the public and the Tourism Industry, is every bodies business, especially those who have invested heavily in a poorly managed destination as Seychelles, by Ministry of Tourism, and Ministry of Internal Affairs.I heard a Minister, say Tourism is everyone's business.

When we write about it, you attack us personally. What kind of perversion is that?

Every citizen should be writing on these slack ministers that take their portfolio as a license to party and take trips around the world, and reep no nett real benefit for Seychelles.

Seychelles is our country. We must insure it succeeds. The first step to doing that, is exposing the follies that take us no where.

How many times have we been down this road. Just the names change, but the practice remains the same, because the attitude and approach does not change.

The era of flip flop managment of Tourism Industry is over, sorry.

St. Ange was suppose to submit a plan to the President James Michel.

Three months ago.

We have not seen this plan yet.

So far, he has told us we will fly to Shanghai, but that has been dropped suddenly with a flight to Hong Kong. He does not tell us why, nor doe she tell us what is the cause of the shift. We believe this Shanghai flight was a direct flight to just collect soldiers and provisions for the PRC that was to be set up, which SFP, was the only opposition party to oppose openly domestically and internationally. We have opposed this with success and consider the announcement by General Gaunje Gi-li this week, a big SFP VICTORY.

There is no plan for Tourism with PL, because they expect Tourist to automatically come to Seychelles every year. This is partly true, since 125,000 do come automatically every year, the rest has to be convinced to come. This is where the real hard and smart work must get done. This is where brains takes over from pomp and fanfare, and where St. Ange missed the ball.

Tourism is about marketing to get the numbers and help our bottom line. It should not be about lofty ideas, and speeches that go in one ear and out the other, with an e turbo press release to say the speech is done. Most of e turbo is spam these days since people are so tired of getting nonsense from that address.

Everybody in the tourism industry is struggling to keep their businesses functional and that becuase of PP fail policy on tourism. You should be happy that they have not started to reduce their loabor force which would mean more Seychellois familes adding to the already astronomic umemplyment quota,They are free to do ,but becuase of their patriotism and caring for their employees they have not do it yet though ,the fianacial durben they into.

You should instead call on St Ange to deliver for tourism is our main source of revenues and it is falling aprt by PP mis-management,lack of vision, fail decision and strategy.

Pp increased price of fish, which also affect not only seychellois families but most small and medium hotels, and guesthouses for most of them buy their product from locals another fianacial durben on Small tourism establishment mainly owed by Locals while at the same time Pp give tax free to five star hotel owners the same who are making millions from fiancial leakage .Instead of asking the later to contribute more ,for they have benfitted a lot from tax.duty, cheap labor etc.. in the past years PP is making Seychellois and small owed local tourist establishment pay for its deficit and economic failure.

As umeployment sky rocket instead of producing jobs for Seychellois thus increase pruchase power of seychellois ;the butcher went to Sri Lnak to invite more cheap labor on our shores to kill Seychellis job and make them poorer.
