EXPERTS say the shark that killed British honeymooner Ian Redmond was a fearsome Great White.

Christian Renaud, the surgeon who tried to save Ian said marine specialists quizzed him over the Seychelles attack.
He also warned the maneater will return to seek more human prey.
Christian added: "They told me it was undoubtedly a Great White Shark."
The beast that mutilated Ian as he snorkelled off a beach had killed a French tourist there days before.
And Christian, who ferried dying Ian to the beach and tried to keep him alive, said: "This shark came here to hunt. He'll come back, that's for sure."
Christian and a friend were on a catamaran 20 yards from Ian when he was mauled in front of horrified bride Gemma.

Prey

He added: "Everyone was bathing at that spot. I swam myself. Clearly, the predator was around me somewhere. I was lucky. The shark wanted prey. It was the British tourist or me. But I got out of the water five minutes before the attack."
Christian, 52, said he was stunned to learn the shark had struck off Anse Lazio beach days before.
He added: "No one knew a French tourist was killed a fortnight earlier. The authorities hid the truth so as not to frighten tourists. Without their negligence this Englishman wouldn't have died."
Describing the attack on Ian, French holidaymaker Christian said: "He uttered a cry of terror before disappearing underwater.
"There was an enormous pool of blood. We will never forget it. My family and I are very shocked - and I am a surgeon."

Christian bravely hauled Ian's mutilated body from the water as the predator circled.
He said: "It was horrible. His left arm was cut off and there was no muscle on his left thigh. You could only see bone.
"He was still alive but in shock through the violence of the impact."
Christian managed to get Ian ashore where teacher Gemma was shaking and sobbing.
He said: "We got oxygen bottles from a divers' boat and we gave him adrenaline. But he lost too much blood. I lost him."
Christian said US marine scientists who questioned him about the attack are convinced a Great White Shark was to blame.

BRIDE Gemma Redmond describes her horrific ordeal in the Seychelles
Seychelles authorities are saying the killer is either a large bull or tiger shark.
But Christian said: "They told me it was undoubtedly a Great White Shark."
A fisherman yesterday caught a 40st shark not far from the area where software expert Ian was attacked.
But an investigation ruled it was not the killer.
Gemma, of Roby, Lancs, arrived back in Britain with Ian's body yesterday.
They married ten days before the tragedy.
The hotel tour rep who told Ian where to snorkel yesterday admitted he had not mentioned the previous shark attack.
George Depinho said: "We just did not think it would happen again."

  • ITV scrapped a planned screening of the 1975 movie Jaws last night in the wake of Ian's death.

A FISHERMAN last night told how he caught a monster shark in waters where tragic Brit Ian Redmond died.
But sea angler Steve Payet, 30, does not believe it was the maneater - despite it weighing 40 stone and stretching more than two metres nose to tail.
Steve said: "The shark I caught was big but I think the killer is much bigger - and he is still out there somewhere. We will not rest until the shark is caught."

MORE than 200 locals held a prayer vigil on Anse Lazio beach yesterday for shark victims Ian Redmond and Frenchman Nicolas Virolle.
The memorial was led by government officials. Hotelier Christopher Gill said: "Local people feel terrible about what happened here and wanted to pray together at the spot to pay our respects."
He added: "Our hearts go out to the two men's families."

Thank you Dr Christain for doing you utmost to save the victim life, but you should also say that due to the lack of fisrt aid and the response of ambulance to be on the scene in time with an ill -equipped ambulance contribute to the death of those two tourists. And Pissedoff, the self-name Australio-seychellois would agree with me ,that in the same situtation or even graver situation, victims do survive in most cases in Australia and that because of thr rapidity, and professionalism of the medical staff.

The Seychelles government has no idea the impact this incident is having in Britain.

Not only in Britain but in Europe as a whole the news has been transmitted on many European medias. The most damaging part of this all,is not becuase of the shark attack itself,it happens in Australia,S.Africa etc often but the government incapacitay to re-act and act, that what makes it bad.

To correct the mistakes, government needs to start or continue taking concrete steps, not lax steps.

People want to know what is being done about the matter.

We need to diligently work to make Seychelles safe in fact, not just perception.

The communists need to change how they see the world to do that.

The steps taken look pathetic. Fishermen with spears and priests. Fishermen with spears taking advantage of the situation to fish any sharks will enrage international environmentalists.

i partly agree with you ,but has divergent of the last part of your comment namely the enrage of Int.environmentalists.Well as you see our country compare with many other countries are still intact and gree with it lust vegetation etc. What that means Seychellois as a people not only this genration but our ancestors though not educated have the instinct and nautral desires to protect environemnt, that expain why we have over hundreds thousands of tortioise on Albadra, our mountains still green,no deforestation etc so you can understand that it is not interantional environmentalists who will give us lesson of environment protection we have been doing since our existance and that when the grandparents orf those environemntalists wre practicing hunting, cut down down trees to make sugar plantation, etc ..etc ..etc.Seychellois are environmenataList by nature not since the existence of interantional environemnt organisations exist.

I remember a woman was attacked and died in Grand Anse Mahe some years back. Two Filipino divers working for the sheik from Plantation Club simultaneously disappeared while allegedly on a shark feeding dive at Grand Police barely 2 years a...go. Witnesses who went with the search party could not jump in the water coz the area was full of menacingly big sharks after the frenzy. That particular sheik is a shark freak and they feed sharks around the island a few weeks before he arrives to prime the spectacle for His Highness. Wonder why sharks are getting so numerous and aggressive these days? Who's to blame for letting these things get out of hand? St. Ange either suffers from amnesia or has learned to be a big liar in such a short time rubbing his bum with these people. Shameful indeed. Posted by a blogger.

St Ange i think was promise a ministerial position in Pp governement,he has become dazzled.

You so right to remind us,that the problem is probably not a natural phenomen phenomenon, but the making of Pp and the illegal comportment of a foreigner who thinks our country is part of his kingdom thus can do whatever he likes. In other word it is an abuse of our sovereignty which we have a right and obligation to make it stop.
