Only Now That The Seychelles Government Reacts To The Deadly Sea Borne Carnivore Wondering In The Anse Lazio Bay. So Who Do We Hold Accountable For Both Deaths??

OFFICE OF MINISTER JOEL MORGAN,
MINISTER FOR HOME AFFAIRS, ENVRIONMENT, TRANSPORT AND ENERGY
16.08.11
PRESS RELEASE
MARITIME SAFETY ADVISORY

Following an emergency meeting this evening in the Office of Minister Morgan, the following advisory has been issued.

The Seychelles Maritime Safety Administration has issued a temporary ban on swimming or entering the water in certain bays of the island of Praslin and islands off the coast of Praslin following two fatal shark attacks this month in the north west area of the island.
People should not swim or enter the water in the following areas;

1.      Anse Lazio- (patrolled by the Police and National Parks Authority)
2.      Anse Georgette, Petite Anse Kerlan and Grand Anse Kerlan (patrolled by Lemuria Resort)
3.      St Pierre island (patrolled by National Parks Authority)
4.      Curieuse island (patrolled by National Parks Authority)
This measure will be enforced for a certain period in order to search for the shark and remove it from the water.

For all other areas of Praslin and La Digue, people should swim close to the beach, within a short distance, and not in deep water.

The Seychelles National Parks Authority in collaboration with the Praslin Development Fund, Seychelles Coat Guard, the Police, the Department of Environment, and the Seychelles Fishing Authority as well as several private boat owners and Seychellois fishermen will be undertaking continuous patrols, research and fishing activities in order to capture the shark.
The Maritime Safety Administration will also reinforce the ban of dumping of waste from yachts and other boats, which have been reported in some of these areas.
The last recorded fatal shark attack in Seychelles waters was in 1963, and therefore the two attacks are considered as extremely unusual events.

Joel Morgan should resign for lack of insight and incompetence!
Tourism is our main commodity and we just cannot afford to have two killed in a matter two weeks. One loss of life was one too many and two is unacceptable!
His emergency meeting was akin to closing the barn door after the horse had bolted!
As the minister responsible he should have with the utmost urgency made a risk assessment of the situation immediately after the first incident and put in place safety measures to protect our bathers!
The loss of one human life was enough for him to have consulted experts on what measures to take to avoid a similar incident. He failed to do so for whatever reason thinking that the shark will just go away and will be forgotten. Unfortunately with predators they will always come back to where they’ve made their last kill for more and will only move on to the next hunting ground when they realise that there is no more to kill at that first place!

Alain St-Ange have for the past years relentlessly built up our tourism industry and with the honeymoon of the Prince of Wales have put us on the map as the honeymoon destination and Morgan’s lack of insight and incompetence have undone what took years to do therefore if he doesn’t go he should be pushed or fed to the sharks!
As a die-hard Pp I have never trusted or liked that little twerp and this is JAM’s chance to bring him to account!
St-Ange should threaten to resign unless Morgan goes!
