The registration of the Seychelles Freedom Party (SFP) is a big step forward for Seychelles.

We must thank Vanessa for all her help manning the office everyday;

Special thanks to Allen, for his artistic magic and wise words that only strengthen us each day, when he shows us that as humans, we are capable of great things when set free in spirit , mind and thought;

special thanks to Gary Tall, in the UK, who says what he feels and thinks, if you do not like it or if you cannot respect his views and opinions, you can stuff it; that attitude of Gary Tall is the spirit of Freedom that lurks in all Seychellois, but it is suppressed;

special thanks to Jean Paul, who never misses a beat to get things done and is strong in spirit and heart;

special thanks to all 500 of those MSR members who signed our registration though the party was not certified;

we did not give up, and came up with a different idea on how to move forward;

above all, special thanks in all of you who have encouraged us all to move forward and not give up and signed the SFP form;

that includes courageous people like Antony Battin, who walked away from SPPF and sought freedom, John Desuabin, who is being victimized by the administration and many many others;

I thank you all for being there, in the hard times, and not giving up, you all have kept Freedom alive for all Freedom Loving Seychellois!

How could I not thank the Weekly team that covers our articles each week, and Phillippe Boulle Viral Dhanjee, Ray St. Ange, and so many others like Ayub, Mr. Ernesta, all of you are Freedom Loving Seychellois, that our country must recognize.

Special thanks to all the sell outs as well. You have galvanized all Freedom Loving Seychellois into a growing force each day!

You are still delusional and see Ferrari everywhere. Now you are the 12th party to be registered, what will you do ? Will you go the same way as the others ? Parti Lepep has registered your party so that you can participate in the elections. Otherwise what difference does it make ?

Gappy ignored your insolent response to his query about Seselwa rasin and fabrike. It shows Parti Lepep were in a hurry to register your party now that it suits them with the deadline for nomination two weeks ago. Will you disappoint them or the DP supporters who sponsored SFP like turkeys looking forward to Christmas.

Thank You for your kind words and respect for your staff and the Seychellois people that has put their confidence in you to push forward and get SFP Registered.

As you are the Founder of the Boycott and the only Politician who saw the system and electoral process for what it is i will extend a glass of water to this new revolution of internet exposure and the age of Facebook which you have revolutionized with staffs.

We and when i say we the group of Seychellois that knows that the unity of the oppositions has been your idea since day one. We know what you have done with your staff to liberate some of the Seychellois that where scared under the communist system!

But i urge you to keep providing us with good leadership and proper direction to this boycott and the reason why it is in play. Do not mind about the Ferrari DNA and his followers which is limited to the corgat estate drug area.

DP has never once fueled or financed you nor supported you that we know, and we also know you contribute articles in volcere's paper and do not receive a single cent for it; all in the esprit of educating the people of Seychelles and getting the message through. Bernard Elizabeth is on the Electoral Commission and is a former DP man but you remain a business man.

Ramkalawan held a press conference with a piece of paper reading from it and thinking he was still in charge. Whereas no Boulle present no Dhanjee and the father and founder of boycott you Christopher gill!!

We can understand why you gave them the idea to keep the opposition from stepping all over Ramkalawan, but i think now that freedom Party is registered we just want Freedom no salvation for those who gave no donations Please.

I can however see a reason why Gappy was suddenly so eager to register SFP:

PL needs an opposing party to participate in teh coming election(s). I say elections as there is a chance that the recent presidential election may prove to be void all pending on the outcome of the Dhanjee case.

Now sine SNP and DP have decided to boycott(for whatever reason they have), PL cannot have a n election alone so they need SFP(or anyone else for that matter).

Be smart Chris, don't let the registration get to your head and consider it a victory.

It is amazing how PL's patronage affects someone's behaviour. There was nothing that Gill could not do without a party.

Parti Lepep registers Gill's political party the day after the real opposition announce a boycott of the elections. I smell a rat. Who do we call ? Gills Pest Control !

Anonymous said...

No, I call it JAM's fright of havingto stand in an election alone and be stamped as a dictator in a one-party-state.

Let us hope that the registration of SFP doesn't go to it's members' head and they forget their boycott. Then again, maybe Gill did it to finally get rid of Ramka. In that case good riddance!

I do not think SFP/Gill will participate in the Assembly elections. Now more than ever the opposition needs a unified stance position.

I am confident that Ramkalawan/Gill will sooner or later sit and have a conversation. Who would have thought a few months ago that Ramkalawan and Volcere will have a unified front. Personally i beleive that Ramkalawan should now resign and allow the SNP to move forward.

The decision not to take part is the feeling of the majority of opposition supporters. Let us see who is prepared to take up the challenge of the opposition now since it will be essentially an unpaid job!

His own word some time ago. Last month to be precise.

I think Ramkalawan should stay and lead the boycott. He was already effectively boycotting the national assembly, despite massive pressure from SNP MNAs not to boycott. He has made enough money being the opposition leader. He can now do the work for nothing and Parti Lepep cannot say that he is "araze larzan". Make no mistake, the boycott carries tremendous risks for SNP. The hope is that Parti Lepep will make concessions to put the search for democracy back on track. Or they could give a nod to the judges to declare the dissolution illegal -- probably what Ramkalawan cheekily meant when he said that Michel can restore the national assembly by proclamation. The assembly will resume, electoral reforms will be undertaken and elections held in 2012.

Anonymous said...

"I do not think SFP/Gill will participate in the Assembly elections."

Is that an opinion or an entreaty to Gill ? He will participate if he thinks he can get 10%.

Anonymous said...

No. Gill will participate to legitimize Pp.

I encourage everyone, to say what they would like to say,freely.

However, I implore everyone, to remember, beyond a political party, there is a country, and her name is Seychelles.

Under Seychelles skies, there are a people called :Seselwa!

It is them who we serve, not our personal pockets in national politics. Somehow, this message has been forgotten along the way.

If we can serve our people's interest for one era with new politicians, we can have a better country, for everyone and the next generation coming, can breath the air of success instead of lament in the sulky order of national defeat born out of backing mediocrity for a few G.I. sheets or a fixed pension for life determined at 40 years.

You have been ducking the issue. Will SFP and everyone who sponsored SFP's registration be boycotting the elections ? Will the search for candidates be stopped ?

Anonymous said...

If you mean corrugated iron sheets, then it's C.I. !

Anonymous said...

Chris,

Some people here are banging on about wether or not SFP will be participating in the forthcoming election and I think it is your duty to clarify that in the name of openness and transparency.

From my point of view though, SFP is already facing a dilemma as participating will be in strong contracdiction to what the party has been advocating. Basically the role call is as follows:

- SFP participates and it's fucked as people will say that it has contradicted itself and failed its supporters.

- SFP boycotts and it won't get that flying start needed

Now the question is why SFP was approved and registered so quick despite Gappy having questions about its manifest on the "Bona Fide" definition.

The case is either that

a) The commission could no longer find a reason to deny its registration

b) The commision didn't want another embarrassing case

c) The commission was forced to accept as they knew the SNP & DP would boycott the election and the PL needed an opposing candidate like the one they've had in SNP in recent years.

Your decision to boycott or not should first be evaluated on the basis of how PL will benefit from your participation. You now have the golden opportunity to force through a united opposition bonded by a mutual boycott, but then boycott will also have to be supported by SFP.

SNP is finished as party the way I and many others see it and this may well be a good oportunity to sieze the chance and become the leader of a united opposition with SFP as its flagship.

Participate in the elections as sole opponent to PL and you WILL lose this time round(no doubt there), but then again losing a battle does not necessarily mean losing the war although you may well also lose potential allies in form of SNP and DP and Boulle in addition to Dhanjee and all his supporters.

Tread carefully mate, don't let this go to your head cos that's exactly what PL wants.

Don't give Tiklor that pleasure of seeing you go down. ;-)

The fear of getting fewer than 500 votes is what will make Gill boycott. Otherwise he would field a handful of candidates. I doubt he can find 25 candidates of reasonable calibre. The idea of people who voted for SNP flocking to Gill is rather outlandish.

If Gill fields candidates he will attract DP voters, rather than PL or SNP voters.

Remember that Gill was fighting for registration of MSR so that he could stand in the presidential. He said he would not stand without a party. The boycott was advocated after he decided not to stand. It is all documented on STAR and here. It had nothing to do with electoral reforms. It was political opportunism.

Gill is using his money simply to get influence on the opposition. I do not think he has the guts to stand in elections because he knows he will be humiliated and his political support will number in hundreds and not thousands. It suits him at the moment to keep us guessing and maximise his influence on the opposition. Unless Gill can show that he has decent support in the country (he could organise a rally on Freedom Square), he should be treated as just another rich businessman with political ambitions and with the money to employ staff full time and perhaps run a newspaper.

Anonymous said...

SNP should continue to work with those who stood in the last presidential candidates for the boycott. These are the parties/people with proven political support. There is no need to accommodate Gill, as this will need to take his views into account and risk divisions with the ego maniac being played out in public and exploited by PL. If Gill won't fall in behind the boycott strategy already thrashed out by Volcere, Boulle and Ramkalawan, he should be allowed to go his own way. There will be much noise from SFP on blogs and bogs but little substance on the ground. Apart from participating in the elections as a political party, there is nothing that Gill can now do that he could not do before. There has been no political activity on the ground especially during the presidential elections when he had a chance to demonstrate the support for a boycott. Instead, we saw Gill go about town behind a Trojan horse in the form of Viral Dhanjee fighting tooth and nail to be allowed to take part in the elections. Not to mention hiding behind some poorly written posts on STAR and Seychelles Reality.

Anonymous said...

Well, Gill did keep his word regarding not standing as candidate without a party. To my opinion standing as presidential candidate without a party is suicide as Boulle has proved twice now, but I guess everyone has his own tactic.

I personally praise Gill for his devotion although I do not always agree with his ways of doing things. The registration of SFP anyhow an important step in teh right direction in teh way that the people(voters) will be the judge of SFP's value or lack of it. That's called democracy, a word many in Seychelles do not care much about as long as they themselves are content.

DG

Kept his word ? Gappy and many others will say otherwise.

Gill has been writing hard hitting articles that have exposed the SPPF.

But, it has exposed opposition weakness as well.

So I expect Gill to follow through as he has been in the past.

I am certain his team of people will make the right decisions.

Why do we persecute him before we listen to him? Are we scared of his movement, which as far as I can see has been solid and tough.

Parti Lepep appoints an Electoral Commission to carry out electoral reforms. But then dissolve the national assembly, so that no new laws can be made before the elections. When they realise that the real opposition is boycotting the elections, they suddenly remember where they left their dictionary and what "bona fide" means, stop all the questioning and promptly registers Seychelles Freedom Party. Gill looked up the meaning of bona fide in a thesaurus and is now taking a long term to decide whether to partake in the elections, having previously advocated a boycott when he had no registered party.

They must all think we all came down in the very last shower.

Even if you do now announce you will boycott, the fact that you left it open to speculation shows that you have been thinking hard about taking part in the elections after Parti Lepep registered your party. There should have been no deliberation and no surprise announcement, as you have been advocating a boycott since you failed to register MSR.

It is healthy to speak your mind and share your ideas.

Unbeknownst to you, perhaps, sharing ideas, no matter how right or how wrong they may be, is part of your humanity.

It is also important to be as explicit as possible, and not leave your ideas on cloud 9, just for yourself in the exercise.

Just as important, if your ideas are clearly stated, then they merit a clear defence or they shall fail.

If that happens, it is adult to accept defeat and move on to the next issue.

To steal a counter view and claim as your own, because your wrong view has defeated your posture is uncivilized except of course, in countries like Cuba, Libya, and Uganda under Idi Amin, and perhaps Seychelles under Rene and Michel.

I do not see any reason to speculate, there is absolutely no reason in the world for the Seychelles Freedom Party to take part in the forthcoming elections. Full stop. Gill, feel free to change your mind. It is your right.

But if you hold the line until 2pm 6 September (close of nomination), there will no voting from 29 September to 1 October.

It is hard to believe that the Electoral Commission will put its credibility on the line and register a new party in the next 5 working days, given how long it took Gill.

After the non-voting is formally closed on 1 October, Gappy will declare Parti Lepep 100% winners. He will go through each district and give Parti Lepep all the votes on the voters register for the Parti Lepep's candidate, without a single vote being cast. He will then through the motion of calculating the allocation of proportional seats and find that Parti Lepep has won all seats again. Who wrote this constitution ?

The speaker (Herminie) will reconvene the national assembly and get himself re-elected speaker seamlessly. He will ask the assembly to elected the leader of the opposition who must be from a party other than Parti Lepep (party of the president, to use Constitutional jargon). Opps. There is no opposition and therefore no opposition leader. No one for Marie Louise Potter to vent her spleen at. When she looks up to shout, she will be shouting at her own people. The People's Assembly is back.

Unless, of course, Parti Lepep spends the next 5 days conjuring up a fake opposition in Seychelles.

There is always the judges to declare the dissolution of the national assembly illegal and Herminie is hung out to dry.

Anonymous said...

Gappy can't declare any winners straight after nomination, even if there is no other party taking part. The reason is that we have to wait until 1 October. Just in case any PL candidate dies before 1 October and the election has to be postponed for that district. It is good that we are committed non-violent opposition who would not hurt a fly, unlike SPUP, otherwise we would be in Tripoli by now where the prices of shoulder-launched missiles have dropped after Gaddafi's arsenals were raided.

Reply to Vox-

Upon registration, the SFP has been officially given a voice.

The stance on a party position as opposed to my personal position, is dictated by proper protocol to be done by a press conference, given the national importance of the issue.

Additionally, we at SFP have learned to think out of the box, and it is natural to us.

While SBC was there, and filmed the whole conference, we know they will air a tibit of the conference.

However, we had our own camera man on sight, and with that, we will be able to deliver a full you tube clip unabridged, that not just you can watch on Seychelles reality blog, but the commonwealth can have as evidence, of SBC bias if they should so be.

I think the cynical approach to life will serve all of us the least.

We all need to find the needle of realistic optimism buried in the hay stack of our humanity to save Seychelles at this point....I did not say blissful optimism born out of foolishness.

Gill is no longer the pro tem leader. He is now leader or Dear Leader. Who elected him ? A very undemocratic birth for SFP.

When is the first rally so that we can see the strength of this party and decide whether to take it seriously. Gill can't expect his financial strength to buy him political power forever. A few paid goons is hardly enough. We should have seen some political activities this weekend to mark the arrival of this new party. Is this a stillborn party ? Given the political situation in Sechelles Seychelles this Sunday morning and the historic visit of President JA Michel to Australia - the contents of their discussions.

Australia is by far the most important for those who love and support the Commonwealth working/institutions.

Australia is the most dynamic economic, democratic, and scientificaly working advance country in the Souther part of the the Globe working.

We have stressed - that the global balance of Power and economy has shifted to the Indian Ocean - Australia very important role.

In Australia - we have possibly 25,000 - 27,000 Seychellois migrants and exile, some 50,000 migrant from Mauritius white and mix with powerful economic clout. A very large French, Canadian, South African, Rhodesian. migrant/exile

How many graduates we have currently in Sechelles Seychelles from 1987 to date. We also have an embryo of a University.

It will take 12 resonable educated Seychellois to either for a government in exile to tople the current system or if they were elected to change the system.

We have a malaise which is affecting all the world working - given history 400 years and our race/ethnic mix well place to develop a more effective nation working in the region.

We believe all of you contributing to the Blogs here have a minimum grasp of life and society working - "hence we want to ask you to think very hard - we wrote to the Russian - President, Intelligence Service, embassy, the Chinese and Italian - had we not been living/base in Britian - London that North Africa and Arab Spring would not have taken place" (The USA responsible and others have copies) This apply to the political current situation in Sechelles Seychelles.

In the meetings with the opposition ad hoc committee I last attended, the last matter to be tabled was candidacy for elections, without discussing the merits of a boycott.

As this was the tabled issue, I simply felt I had nothing to contribute along those lines and did not attend these meetings any more.

We cannot intellectually fool ourselves, into a false sense of reality.

Now we have a opposition group formed by cross the floor sell outs from SNP that are financed by the PL to partake in elections.

This situation is humiliating for Seychelles experiment with Democracy.

It will back fire when the votes are counted if at all.

Our situation in Seychelles, is severe and lacking in democratic practice.

Open your eyes.

The Electoral Commission has put its credibility at risk with the hasty registration of Parti Lepep's offspring, the Popular Democratic Party. Can any organisation work without the malign influence of Parti Lepep in this country ?
