The Seychelles Freedom Party (SFP) advises its member’s supporters and the general public that it has received a written invitation by the Election Commission to attend a meeting today, on the launching of the Electoral Reforms by the Election Commission. The Freedom Party has been told to have one leader present.
The Freedom Party welcomes effort for electoral reform and dialogue. In response to this, we confirm that our Administrator will attend the meeting to collect documents and be made aware by the Election Commission, what exactly it is proposing.
No political party leader of the Seychelles Freedom Party will attend this meeting principally because we are clueless as to what legal authority the Election Commission has to enact legislation and proposed law, which is the domain of the Executive Branch of government and the Legislative Branch exclusively.
Freedom Party has also declined doing a joint communiqué with the opposition round table, for fear of the inherent weakness of this talk shop at this time, principally because SNP does not attend these meetings, but yet, they want to write the press releases for this round table. Until such time SNP sends a representative to this round table, Seychelles Freedom Party will act as an individual entity, bearing in mind the interest of the country and interest of all "Freedom Loving Seychellois".
Freedom Party expresses great concern and alerts all its members and supporters of an ongoing effort by some political elements to buy out the opposition. The Freedom Party believes that this is highly counterproductive to fostering genuine democracy and establishing freedom in Seychelles, as promised in 1991, by then President France Albert Rene.
