RE: Democratic and Electoral Reform
I am writing to you both on the eve of the launching of the electoral reform process that will engage all stakeholders in the Seychelles democratic experiment that has now lasted Eighteen (18) years. This experiment, we all know has produced very poor results for our people and our country.
As you both know, the push for reform has taken a heighten stage after the last Presidential Elections which involved excessive undue and illegal interference in funding from external forces trying to manipulate Seychelles internal politics .
Following my initial call for a BOYCOTT of the process to bring SPPF PL to task over their lack of respect for democratic process and norms, you both joined in a second BOYCOTT of the National Assembly Elections, which in unity of all parties, conclusively exposed the fallacy of the SPPF PL version of democracy that has taken our country, nowhere in Eighteen (18) years.
After the BOYCOTT and resounding public outrage of the PL fielding a fake opposition party, SFPcalled for a Round Table of all parties to chart a course forward.
At this juncture, I called for a united opposition round table as well, which through this and that, the Seychelles Freedom Party (SFP) eventually was excluded from meetings held by your Two (2) parties.
This overt effort to slight SFP is a disservice to the country. In the preliminary round table discussions with the Election Commission , we all know well that any division serves PL interest in keeping Seychelles in the shadows of tyranny with only a fake democracy as window dressing.
Taking into earnest consideration of the seriousness of our people’s quest for true democracy in Seychelles, as leader of the SFP, I am writing to you both, to implore you, to present a united front and strategy against the ruling communist party in the upcoming Electoral and Democratic Reform exercise initiated by the round table dialogue headed by the Commission of Election.
The opportunity before us is too important to slip by because of opposition division.
These impending reforms are even more important than elections themselves, because they will determine the future course of Seychelles, and the quality of democracy every Seychellois will either enjoy freely, or be so denied by continued acts of tyranny and one party state tactics, which up to know, is still very much in play in Seychelles.
If denied Democracy at this juncture, Seychelles will enter a period of great instability that we must avert if possible.
With this in mind, I ask you Two (2) leaders in particular to rise to the occasion, and put all petty differences apart that divide our mutual organizations and focus on what can unite us all as we face the PL Communists in the internationally encouraged democratic and electoral reforms. Contrary to what many tend to believe, the world is in fact watching developments in Seychelles carefully.
I remain optimistic, that you will both see the logic of my sensible and open appeal to you both.
SFP remains ready to meet with you both in the interest of insuring our people get the deal negotiated in 1991-1993 and the full respect of our rights as a people guaranteed by the UN Declaration on Human Rights. Feel free to contact me or Jean Paul Isaac our Secretary General by any means you prefer.
Should you elect to remain on a course of division, we will chart our own course forward, without notice to you or the PL communists and any of their agents, as they arise from time to time.
