Annual STB Marketing Meetings 11-13 December 2012.

PRESS RELEASE

13 December 2012

Annual STB Marketing Meetings 11-13 December 2012.

Having joined in deliberation with the Seychelles Tourism Board over the past two days concerning those matters which are impacting most negatively upon Seychelles’ tourism industry, the Seychelles tourism trade brings the following issues to the attention of the Government in the hope that the solutions may be implemented without delay:

Seychelles is in danger of losing its security label and the perception in the eyes of the consumer that Seychelles is a safe place to come on holiday. Such a perception lies at the very foundation of the industry's success and loss of the security label will affect tourism numbers disastrously.

The Seychelles tourism trade asks the government to take immediate, integrated and durable steps to ensure that crimes against tourists carry far stiffer penalties reflective of their gravity against the industry upon which the nation depends for its prosperity.

That Government looks at the deplorable lack of security on the nations’ walks and trails which are an important asset and the USP of the tourism industry and asks for an effective, integrated approach to the problem with the Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Internal Affairs to take such measures as may be necessary to restore the security which tourists can expect to enjoy. We urge the relevant Ministries to take ownership of main economic lifeline of the nation and to adopt the integrated, long term approach necessary to avoid piecemeal, one-off, short term solutions which often undermine our best efforts.

Government seriously needs to address the question of the current lack of proper enforcement of the law with regards to effectively prosecuting blatant criminal activity inside tourism establishments themselves, with the consequent negative impact on revenue and future investor interest.

The Seychelles Tourism Trade urges the Government to create a climate conducive to restoring direct flights to its core European markets for reasons of diversification of risk and restoration of tourism numbers from those markets.
Government should also adopt the visionary approach and create the level playing field necessary to attract and keep the interest of new airlines who show potential in opening up Seychelles to the world.

The trade urges all Government bodies and relevant agencies to buy into Seychelles’ tourism industry, assume their responsibilities for ensuring the furtherance of its aims, strategies and objectives in an integrated fashion to mitigate the negative effects impacting on tourism at a global level. The trade recommends that 2013 be declared as Seychelles Year of Tourism, to reflect the importance of the industry to the nation.

The Seychelles tourism trade is delighted that Government has officially appointed members of the SHTA Marketing Board to work with and to collaborate with the STB in the domains of marketing strategy, marketing budget and the use of marketing funds for tourism.

You right ,the best thing to do is to get PP out and that rapidly. For Pp has no clue,no understading of economy,no stragety, and do not even understand the importance of having a National carrier.Countires that do not have a National such as Uganda etc.. are doing all to build up one for they understand the importance of it.Only PP monkeys and their foreign arabs donkeys seems to ignore that.

So waht we must do.get those monkeys oput of power, stop them from abusing, raping our institutions to conduct and cover up their criminal activities.

You can not fool anyone trying to use others name. You have a problem it seems to accept the idea that any Seychellois who feels,thinks,etc..to be President of our land has a right to candidate for the higher office, even BIOKO can do if he feels like though after the people will decide of whether they want him or not.Only PP communists think power was limited to a handful of persons in our society that explained why PP raped our freedom in 1977.

While other Airlines are necessary to shoulders Air Seychelles and our economy, there are Airlines though their operations would have not effect on our tourism industry..For Instance,Turkey Airline flying to Seychelles to transport which kind of tourists?Turkey is itself a tourist destination AND TURKISH themselves are not necessary a big tourist market.Secoindly,it is difficult to figure out how Turkish Airline will bring toursist to our shores and also difficult to see an EUROPEAN TOURIST traveling from a Europe via turkey to reach Seychelles simply because the tourist intinary would be longer .Traveling via turkey would mean more hours waste only to reach there and a waste of money.

There are however Airlines that can really help us boost our tourist arriva:BELAIR;EDELWIESS;VIRGIN etc..these Airlines already operates flgiht to Maldives,Kenya,South Africa,Sri Lanka,Mauritius,PHuket Thailand,Cuba,Mexico ..and their operations are really doing good for those countries tourism industry.Maybe St Ange should firstly ask why they not landing on our shores and secondly ,when would he contact such airlines?Ethopia Airline,Turkish Airline,Afgan Airline,etc..these airlines cannot bring us more tourists for these countries do not provide the tourists arrival we expected.

Our markets for tourism is eroding from lack of direct flights ,lack of big enough planes, lack of open skies policy and encouragement of additional airlines to fly to Seychelles .mauritius flies emirates 15times a week with 777. Air France flies 5 flights a week, southafrican airways 2 daily flights ,condor daily. Other airlines fly daily. We are losing out to this destination, because gos and shta stb are not working with a common objective to increase numbers in key markets. Just last week when we are. Calling for more flights instead st ange brought to Seychelles a floating hotel. Madness indeed. A floating hotel.

On regime change we all know the under 30 group could careless for pl communism and they are75% of the existing vote. Pl is in trouble we all see it. Mr. Michel has failed Seychelles horribly and he stays to only enjoy the perks of leadership. There is nol leadership. All these new young people coming up who are solid, just push Michel out a little faster, just by standing up and saying enough. Unfortunately for him, they are joining the sfp not snppdm.

Nation says that we had more than 200000 tourists by the time Barry Faure went to the airport to welcome the swiss couple arriving on air seychelles from Abu Dhabi. The 200000th visitor arrived on Kenya Airways a few days before. Faure did not want to be welcoming someone from Africa as the 200000th visitor. One was selected at random.

Is Gill too busy looking after his hotel which isnow full thanks to PL?

Maldives registers a total growth of 255,867 from January to March this year 2012,Mauritius 980,000 for this year nothing for St Ange to be happy about.
